Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum in Phnom Penh, a sobering reminder of the brutal
tragedy brought about by the temporary rule of Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge in the
1970s. Regroup in the Russian Market to experience the present resilience and beauty
of the local culture. Take in the traditional design of the Royal Palace and Silver
Pagoda, built upon the site of the Banteay Kev, a citadel built in 1813. Then fly to Siem
Reap and trek into ancient history with a visit to the wondrous Angkor Wat temple
complex, one of the largest religious sites in the world.

TERRACOTTA WARRIORS

Experience a trip to Xi’an and the famous Terracotta Warriors Museum, a
repository for thousands of clay soldiers that were buried with China’s first
emperor to accompany him in his eternal rest. Considered one of the world’s
greatest archaeological treasures, the 7,000 life-size terracotta warriors and
horses were buried for centuries until they were discovered in 1974. The warriors
are grouped in battle order, rank by rank, some mounted on horse-drawn chariots
and others in infantry groups armed with spears, swords and crossbows. Each figure
was individually created with unique characteristics.

Chengdu is an attraction unto itself, capital of the Sichuan province and brimming
with history going more than 1,700 years back. Stroll the attractions and historic
recreations of Jinli Street, enjoying local foods and crafts. Set out the next day to
experience the imposing and beautiful Giant Buddha of Leshan, carved into the cliff
face nearly 1,200 years ago. From there, experience what life was like in the province
some 500 years before the Giant Buddha came to be. Huanglongxi is a fully restored
village inviting you to step into the past and sample the scenes and flavors of
4th-century Sichuan. Lastly, take in the Chengdu Panda Base, a sanctuary for the
endangered giant panda.
