  • POST - RELICS AND LANDMARKS OF OSLO - 2025 CODE: OSLL18

Explore the enchanting Norwegian capital of Oslo, admiring its panoramic views, contemporary architecture, and historical museums.

    Day 1

Disembark the ship and transfer to the public boat pier where you will board a vessel and cruise along the Oslofjord. Along the way, you will see forested islands, the fortress of Akershus, and the two towers of the Town Hall, a building inaugurated in 1950 for Oslo’s 900th anniversary.

Back at the pier, drive to your hotel for check in. Hotel check in time is at 2:00pm.

Once you have checked-in, the remainder of the day is at your leisure and meals are on your own.

The Opera, shopping in Kvadraturen and the nightlife on Youngstorget are close by.

    Day 2

Following breakfast, you will drive through the City Center to the famed Oslo Opera House. Designed by the Norwegian firm Snøhetta, the contemporary marble-and-glass building is a work of art that has won countless awards. Pausing long enough for photos from the roof of the opera house (outside visit), you will enjoy a spectacular view of the surrounding Bjøvika neighborhood.

Then, it’s on to the Vigeland Sculpture Park, an 80-acre green oasis with more than 200 bronze and granite sculptures of the human form in various positions. Commissioned by the city of Oslo, Norwegian sculptor Gustav Vigeland created the sculpture park over a period of 20 years. “The Monolith,” a highly symbolic piece with 121 intertwined human bodies, is the centerpiece and took more than 14 years to create.

Note: you will have approximately 1 km of walking here.

Continuing on, you will drive to the Holmenkollen Ski Jump, a towering monument of steel and concrete that opened in 2010 for competitive ski jumping. From the top, you will enjoy a magnificent view of Oslo, the fjord and surrounding islands.

Following lunch, you will drive on to the Norwegian Open-Air Museum on the peninsula of Bygdøy. The exhibits reflect the daily life and living conditions in Norway from the 16th century to present time. More than 150 buildings from various parts of the country are displayed, including the 12th-century Stave Churches and an entire street depicting life in the year 1865.

Next visit the Maritime Museum which houses the 9th century Viking boat from the largest Gokstad Viking ship findings along with a wide range of Norwegian maritime cultural heritage including the country's oldest vessel (2200 years old).

View a new exhibition where ship builders will be reconstructing one of the smaller Viking boats from the “Gokstad” discovery using scientific and experimental methods that can provide unknown knowledge about the Vikings’ vessels.

This evening, enjoy a stroll around the city and a taste of some of the best Norwegian beers, cheeses, and cured meats.

The first stop will be the most haunted place in Oslo, the Akershus Fortress, from where you will follow the ghosts to the center of medieval Christiania. The tour then continues with a stroll around the City Hall and its beautifully decorated entrance where you will learn more about Norse mythology.

Leaving the old times behind, the second part of our tour is dedicated to Norway’s modern history and culture which is highlighted by such sights as the Parliament building, National Theatre and the Royal Palace.

Conclude the evening with a 30-45-minute tasting session that includes 3 beer samples, Norwegian akvavit and a selection of traditional Norwegian cheeses and cured meats. In all, the evening program takes approximately 2 hours.

    Day 3

Following breakfast, embark on a second full sightseeing-day in Oslo. First the group will head towards the Peninsula of Bygdøy with visits to the Fram and Kon-Tiki Museums.

Norway is an Arctic Nation, and the "Fram" Polarmuseum, which was built in 1936, and upgraded several times in the recent years, is dedicated to the polar expeditions and the explorers Fridtjof Nansen, Roald Amundsen and Otto Sverdrup. Exhibits include photographs, film, light effects, models and displays of Historical Artefacts. Further, there is an Aurora lightshow on the roof and a “Dark Walk” aiming to give an impression of polar conditions. The highlight and main exhibit are the complete polar ship “FRAM” built in 1893 – specially designed to withstand the pressure of pack-ice. This proud little ship is still the surface vessel that has sailed both furthest North – reaching 85° 57'n latitude with Nansens expedition from 1893-1896 – and furthest South reaching 78° 41's latitude with Amundsens expedition to the South Pole from 1910-1912.

The Kon Tiki Museum houses the original balsa raft used by Thor Heyerdahl and his five companions in 1947 during their voyage from Peru to Polynesia, across 3000 kilometers of ocean. Further, you will find the papyrus-boat RA II with which Tor Heyerdahl, again with his faithfully companions, successfully crossed the Atlantic Ocean in 1970. A good selection of documentary material is also on display.

Next, head back to town for a visit to the fairly new Munch Museum. Opened in June 2020, this is the newest milestone museum in Oslo. Enjoy a light lunch inside the museum restaurant located on the top floor before you are taken on a guided tour to see the famous paintings by Norwegian Edvard Munch. The most famous motif is the so-called “Scream” – of which he made 4 versions.

From the Munch Museum you will be driven up to Ekeberg, taking a short photo stop at the so-called “Munch-svingen” – with an impressive view of Oslo, which is said to be the background for the famous “Scream-painting”. From Ekeberg you will start a guided walk through the privately arranged Ekeberg Scultpure Park, displaying some sculptures from famous artists all around the world, among them Rodin, Dali, Renoir, Henry, Hirst and many more.

Your bus then returns the group to your hotel and the remainder of the day is at your leisure.

    Dinner is on your own.

    Day 4

Back at the pier, drive to your hotel for check in. Once you have checked-in, the remainder of the day is at your leisure and meals are on your own.

As the hotel is in the city center, only a 10 minute walk from city hall and the harbor, you may enjoy a leisurely stroll on your own around Aker Brygge and Tjuvholmen, a popular area with plenty of restaurants.

Following lunch, you will drive on to the Norwegian Open Air Museum on the peninsula of Bygdøy.

This evening, enjoy a stroll around the city and a taste of some of the best Norwegian beers, cheeses and cured meats.

The first stop will be the most haunted place in Oslo, the Akershus Fortress, from where you’ll follow the ghosts to the center of medieval Christiania. The tour then continues with a stroll around the City Hall and its beautifully decorated entrance where you’ll learn more about Norse mythology.

Leaving the old times behind, the second part of our tour is dedicated to Norway’s modern history and culture which is highlighted by such sights as the Parliament building, National Theatre and the Royal Palace.

Conclude the evening with a 30-45-minute tasting session that includes 3 beer samples, Norwegian akvavit and a selection of traditional Norwegian cheeses and cured meat” In all, the evening program takes 2-2.5 hours.

    Day 3

Following breakfast, your bus and guide will take you an another full sightseeing-day in Oslo. Your first goal will be the peninsula of Bygdøy with the Fram and Kon-Tiki museums.

"Fram" Polarmuseum: Norway is an Arctic Nation, and this Museum - built in 1936, and upgraded several times in the recent years is dedicated to the polar expeditions and the explorers Fridtjof Nansen, Roald Amundsen and Otto Sverdrup –. The exhibits include Photographs, Film, Light Effects, Models and displays of Historical Artefacts. Further, there is an Aurora light-show in the roof and a “Dark Walk” aiming to give an impression of polar conditions. The main exhibit, however, is the complete polarship “FRAM” built in 1893 – specially designed to withstand the pressure of pack-ice. The proud little ship is still the surface vessel that has sailed both furthest North – reaching 85° 57'n latitude with Nansens expedition from 1893-1896 – and furthest South reaching 78° 41's latitude with Amundsens expedition to the South Pole from 1910-1912.

Kon-Tiki Museum: The museum houses the original balsa raft used by Thor Heyerdahl and his five companions in 1947 during their voyage from Peru to Polynesia, across 3000 kilometres of ocean. Further, you find the papyrus-boat RA II with which Tor Heyerdahl, again with his faithfully companions, successfully crossed the Atlantic Ocean in 1970. A good selection of documentary material is also on display.

After ample time to explore inside these two museums, the group will head back to town to visit the National Museum (opened late 2022) which offers a range of exhibitions showing Norwegian and international art, architecture and design. The famous “Scream” painting is always on display here among 50,000 other objects from the wide collection of Norwegian heritage. Your Oslo guide will give you a tour through this museum.

From the National Museum you will take the bus up to Ekeberg, making a short photostop at the so-called “Munch-svingen” – with an impressive view of Oslo, which is said to be the background for the famous “Scream-painting”. From Ekeberg you will start a guided walk through the privately arranged Ekeberg Scultpure Park, displaying some sculptures from famous artists all around the world, among them Rodin, Dali, Renoir, Henry, Hirst and many more.

The bus takes you back to your hotel after an another day full of interesting sights.

Note: This program is not recommended for guests with mobility restrictions or for guests who are prone to motion sickness or cannot tolerate driving along winding, high mountain roads. Due to the nature of this program, it is not available for guests who require the use of a wheelchair.

    DAY 1 – August 21, 2025

Upon arrival at the Oslo International Airport, you will be met and transferred by private vehicle to your hotel. Check in is at 3:00pm. The remainder of the day is yours for discovering the city at your own pace.

As the hotel is in the city center and only a 10-minute walk from the harbor, you may enjoy a leisurely stroll on your own around Aker Brygge and Tjuvholmen, a popular area with plenty of restaurants.

    DAY 2 – August 22, 2025

Following breakfast at the hotel and check-out, meet your guide and drive into the countryside to Hadeland Glassworks, where glass is still blown using traditional methods. Merchandise ranging from wine glasses to decorative arts is all produced by hand on the premises. Depending on the day, you might be able to try blowing some glass yourself.

After lunch you will head north, passing beautiful lake Mjøsa on the way to Lillehammer, site of the 1994 Winter Olympics. Upon arrival you will visit the open-air museum Maihaugen, which boasts a collection of nearly 200 historical buildings from different eras.

Before checking in for the night, you will enjoy an enlightening drive around Lillehammer, passing landmarks such as the Lillehammer Museum of Art and the Norwegian Olympic Museum.

After checking in at your hotel, the evening is at leisure with dinner on your own. Your guide will share recommendations on where you may grab a bite to eat. There are some lovely restaurants just a short five-minute walk from your hotel. A unique suggestion is “Bryggerikjelleren”.

Note: The hotel is a small and intimate boutique hotel located in the heart of Lillehammer. The hotel was fully renovated in 2021 and although quite comfortable, it is not considered a luxury hotel. The hotel used to be a mill and the hotel rooms were once used for grain storage, in fact they call their rooms grain chambers. At the top of the hotel you will find Toppen Bar, renowned as the best cocktail bar in Lillehammer.

    DAY 3 – August 23, 2025

After breakfast and check out, continue the drive north towards Dombås. From there you will head west towards the coast, passing through the Rauma valley with spectacular scenery on both sides.

Upon arrival to Åndalsnes, hop aboard the Romsdalen Gondola and head up the mountain, 1679 meters above sea level. Here you will enjoy a two-course lunch and have time to take a short stroll or just simply take in the gorgeous views.

Once you are back down, continue by bus following the coastal road towards the Art Noveau town of Ålesund. En route you will stop at the Skodje bridges where you can take an optional walk over the two old cobblestone bridges which were built between 1916-1919.

Upon arrival to your hotel in Ålesund, enjoy a short, guided tour of the centre of town with your guide and then the evening is at leisure with dinner on your own.

You may wish to visit the landmark of Ålesund which is Aksla Viewpoint from where you have the most beautiful view over the town and the islands. The walk up and down consists of 418 steps each way but as an alternative you could hire a taxi. Unfortunately, busses are not permitted to drive to the top.

    DAY 4 – August 24, 2025

This day is filled with highlights and as such requires an early start!

Your first stop after departing the hotel will be at the outer islands. Pass through the sub-sea-tunnel to the island Godøy and the landmark Alnes Lighthouse. The combination of Norwegian coastal nature with the ocean and a beautifully landscaped cultural monument have made this attraction a popular spot for tourists alike.

Here you will have enough time for a walk, to climb the stairs up to the top of the lighthouse and to enjoy a coffee break at the nearby Visitor Centre.

After catching a glimpse of the Atlantic Ocean, return inland. During this two-hour drive you will experience the first (out of three) ferry-crossings of the day. Ferries are essential for the inhabitants of this region, and some say that there is nothing more typical Norwegian, than taking a ferry.

While Geirangerfjord is often said to be the most beautiful, many Norwegians think that Hjørundfjord is even more spectacular. And that is where you are heading next. Upon arrival visit the Sagastad Hotel and Restaurant, where lunch awaits you.

A short ferry-crossing from Lekneset to Sæbø will take you to the other side of Hjørundfjord, from where you continue your journey towards Hellesylt.

Once the group boards the ferry to Geiranger, there is time to sit and relax. During the one-hour journey take in the beauty of this UNESCO World Heritage Site as you pass the famous waterfalls and mountain farms.

Upon arrival to Geiranger, you will make another detour up to the Eagles Bend viewpoint, before checking in at your hotel where dinner will be served.

    DAY 5 – August 25, 2025

While the day prior was all about the coast and the fjords, today will be all about the mountains and you will start with the highest!

Proceed from sea-level up to 1500 meters in the bus. En route to Dalsnibba Skywalk you will make a stop at Flydalsjuvet viewpoint, perhaps the most famous postcard-image of Norway.

Continue further inland in an eastern direction, passing through typical Norwegian highland landscape on your way to Lom, where the group will enjoy lunch.

Lunch is followed by a drive through the most spectacular mountain scenery Norway has to offer, following the Sognefjell mountain road. This mountain pass is the highest in Northern Europe and has been awarded the status of National Tourist Route because of the spectacular and wild scenery, especially the section within Jotunheimen National Park.

Return to sea level and visit the Urnes Stave Church, the oldest of Norway`s stave churches. This UNESCO World Heritage site church was built around 1130 AD, but the distinctive carvings on the north portal are from an even older church. Samples taken from the base timbers show that the timber was felled between 1129 and 1131.

After two more ferry-crossings and a drive along Norway`s longest fjord, Sognefjord, you will arrive to your historical hotel in Balestrand, where you will dine and spend the evening.

    DAY 6 – August 26, 2025

After leaving Balestrand, take the ferry from Dragsvik crossing Sognefjord to Vangsnes.

From there you will once more climb into the mountains as the road takes you past Vik up into the Vikafjell mountains and down again to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Nærøyfjord, the “narrow fjord”. In Gudvangen, located at the end of Nærøyfjord, you will stop for a coffee break, before heading through the tunnel over to Flåm.

Hop aboard the Flåm Railway, locally called Flåmsbana. The scenery will become even more dramatic, as the railway is one of steepest in the world. You can expect to see roaring rivers carving their ways through steep gorges, waterfalls spilling over mountainsides and tiny farms clinging to the slopes. It will be one incredible vista after another.

After roughly an hour you will arrive to Myrdal station where you will change to the Bergen-Oslo Railway. During the five-hour train-journey towards Oslo you will first pass through the mountain highlands of Hardangervidda before the scenery becomes greener and eventually you will pass through Norwegian farmland and on into the capital of Norway. A boxed lunch is included on the train.

From the Oslo train station, it is a short walk across the street to your hotel.

Dinner and reminder of the day will be on your own.

    Day 7 - August 27, 2025

After breakfast at the hotel and check out, you will head for the Vigeland Sculpture Park, an 80-acre green oasis with more than 200 bronze and granite sculptures of the human form in various positions. Commissioned by the city of Oslo, Norwegian sculptor Gustav Vigeland created the sculpture park over a period of 20 years. “The Monolith,” a highly symbolic piece with 121 intertwined human bodies, is the centerpiece and took more than 14 years to create.

Continuing on, you will drive to the Holmenkollen Ski Jump, a towering monument of steel and concrete that opened in 2010 for competitive ski jumping. From the top, you will enjoy a magnificent view of Oslo, the fjord and surrounding islands. NOTE: There could be long lines to the viewpoint.

Upon reaching Bygdøy Peninsula, you will find the Fram Museum. Fram is the strongest wooden ship ever built and still holds the records for sailing farthest north and farthest south (both North pole and Antarctica). At the Fram Museum you can come on board the ship and see how the crew and their dogs managed to survive in the coldest and most dangerous places on earth.

Later in the afternoon, you will arrive at the port and board the cruise ship.

  • PRE - RELICS AND LANDMARKS OF OSLO - 2025 CODE: OSLL17

Explore the enchanting Norwegian capital of Oslo, admiring its panoramic views, contemporary architecture, and historical museums.

NOTE: this program includes lots of walking and is not recommended for guests with mobility restrictions.

    Day 1

Upon arrival at the Oslo International Airport, you will be met and transferred by private vehicle to your hotel. Check in is at 2:00pm. The remainder of the day is yours for discovering the city at your own pace.

The Opera, shopping in Kvadraturen and the nightlife on Youngstorget are close by.

Note: your driver will meet you once you have exited customs, immigration and luggage claim. Please look for someone holding an RSSC sign and /or with your name.

Continuing, you will drive to the Holmenkollen Ski Jump, a towering monument of steel and concrete that opened in 2010 for competitive ski jumping.

You will next visit the Maritime Museum which houses the 9th century Viking boat from the largest Gokstad Viking ship findings along with a wide range of Norwegian maritime cultural heritage including the country's oldest vessel (2200 years old).

Conclude the evening with a 30-45-minute tasting session that includes 3 beer samples, Norwegian akvavit and a selection of traditional Norwegian cheeses and cured meat” In all, the evening program takes 2-2.5 hours.

    Day 4

Following breakfast at the hotel and check out (don’t forget to settle any incidentals before departing), transfer to the pier to board a public sightseeing boat for a cruise along the Oslofjord. Along the way, you will see forested islands, the fortress of Akershus, and the two towers of the Town Hall, a building inaugurated in 1950 for Oslo’s 900th anniversary.

Back at the local pier, transfer to the cruise port for embarkation.

  • POST - NORWEGIAN WONDERLANDS CODE: OSLL20

See Norway’s staggeringly beautiful fjords, lakes and mountains, often traveling by train and on wonderfully circuitous roads, with enlightening tours of villages in between and stops at the most historical landmarks.

Note: This program is not recommended for guests with mobility restrictions or for guests who are prone to motion sickness or cannot tolerate driving along winding, high mountain roads. Due to the nature of this program, it is not available for guests who require the use of a wheelchair.

    DAY 1 – August 30, 2025

Disembark the ship in Oslo, meet your guide and set off for an exploration of the city.

Proceed first to the Vigeland Sculpture Park, an 80-acre green oasis with more than 200 bronze and granite sculptures of the human form in various positions.

Later in the afternoon, you will arrive back in the city center to check-in to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at your leisure and dinner is on your own.

As the hotel is in the city center and only a 10-minute walk from the harbor, you may enjoy a leisurely stroll on your own around Aker Brygge and Tjuvholmen, a popular area with plenty of restaurants.

    DAY 2 – August 31, 2025

Following breakfast at the hotel and check-out, the group will walk over to the train station which is across the street from your hotel. Take the morning train from Oslo through the breathtaking countryside to Myrdal, where you will hop aboard the Flåm Railway, locally called Flåmsbana.

The scenery will become even more dramatic, as the railway is one of steepest in the world. You can expect to see roaring rivers carving their ways through steep gorges, waterfalls spilling over mountainsides and tiny farms clinging to the slopes. It will be one incredible vista after another. A boxed lunch is included on the train.

After some free time in Flåm for picture taking, board your bus and drive through the tunnel to Gudvangen, located at the end of the UNESCO World Heritage listed Nærøyfjord, the “narrow fjord”. Between the towering mountain walls on both sides, enjoy a coffee break and some time to stretch your legs.

To reach the final destination of the day, it will be necessary to cross the mountains of Vikafjell. Travel from sea-level up to 1067 meters and back down again to Vangsnes. By ferry then, you will cross over Norways longest fjord, Sognefjord, before arriving to Balestrand, where you will have dinner and spend the night at a historic hotel.

Note: Early this morning, your luggage will be collected at the hotel and taken by bus to Flåm. Please refer to the Welcome Letter that you receive for the pick- up time which will be much earlier than your check out time. If guests do not have the luggage ready in time it will have to be carried on the subway and the train (there are no porters to assist so guests will be responsible for carrying their own luggage onto and off of the train).

    DAY 3 – September 1, 2025

After breakfast at the hotel and check out, you will take the ferry back across Sognefjord to the Urnes Stave Church, the oldest of Norway’s stave churches.

This UNESCO World Heritage site church was built around 1130 AD, but the distinctive carvings on the north portal are from an even older church. Samples taken from the base timbers show that the timber was felled between 1129 and 1131.

You will then follow an immensely picturesque route that crosses the Sognefjell mountains between Luster and Lom. This mountain pass is the highest in Northern Europe and has been awarded the status of National Tourist Route because of the spectacular and wild scenery, especially the section in the Jotunheimen National Park.

In time, you will arrive in Lom for a leisurely lunch. Continuing on, you will drive to Geiranger with occasional stops along the way for photos of sights such as Mount Dalsnibba. At the Flydalsjuvet lookout, take in the stunning views of the fjord and Geiranger, where you will spend the night. Dinner will be served at the hotel with the remainder of the evening at your leisure.

    DAY 4 – September 2, 2025

Following breakfast at the hotel and check out, you will board the ferry from Geiranger to Hellesylt and enjoy a one-hour cruise through the UNESCO world heritage Geirangerfjord, passing the famous waterfalls.

After arriving Hellesylt, make a short detour to the viewpoint Ljøen, from where you can look back into the Geirangerfjord and admire its beauty once again.

While Geirangerfjord is often said to be the most beautiful, many Norwegians think that Hjørundfjord is even more spectacular, and this is where you will visit next. At the end of the fjord there will be another ferry crossing to Sæbø where lunch awaits you at the Sagastad Restaurant.

After lunch, sit back and relax during the two-hour drive which promises more beautiful scenery. Another ferry crossing will bring you to Ålesund. Before checking in to your hotel, pass through the sub-sea-tunnel to the outer islands and the landmark Alnes Lighthouse. The combination of Norwegian coastal nature with the ocean and a beautifully landscaped cultural monument have made this attraction a popular spot for tourists alike.

You will have enough time for a walk, to climb the stairs to the top of the lighthouse and to enjoy a coffee break at the nearby Visitor Centre.

Upon arrival to your hotel in Ålesund, your guide will give you a short explanation of what to see and do in the evening as well as tips for where to have dinner.

    DAY 5 – September 3, 2025

After breakfast the next morning, your guide will take you on a one-hour leisurely walking tour through the center of Ålesund, famous for its Art Noveau Arcitecture before boarding the bus again for the drive to Åndalsnes. En-route stop at the Skodje Bridges where you can take an optional walk over the two old cobblestone bridges which were built between 1916-1919.

In Åndalsnes, hop aboard the Romsdalen Gondola and head up the mountain to 1679 meters above sea level. Here you will enjoy a two-course lunch and time to take in the stunning views. Once you are back down, continue by bus passing through more breathtaking mountain scenery with the winding Rauma River in sight at times.

Once you reach Lillehammer, site of the 1994 Winter Olympics, check-in to your hotel. The evening is at leisure with dinner on own. Your guide can share recommendations on where to dine. In fact, there are some lovely restaurants withing a five-minute walk from the hotel, a unique option being “Bryggerikjelleren”.

    DAY 6 – September 4, 2025

Following breakfast at the hotel and check out, take an enlightening drive around Lillehammer, passing landmarks such as the Lillehammer Museum of Art and the Norwegian Olympic Museum. Time will also be included to browse the open-air museum Maihaugen, which boasts a collection of nearly 200 historical buildings from different eras.

Continuing into the countryside, you will pass beautiful Lake Mjøsa on the way to Hadeland Glassworks, where glass is still blown using traditional methods. Merchandise ranging from wine glasses to decorative arts is all produced by hand on the premises. Depending on the day, you might be able to try blowing some glass yourself.

Upon reaching Oslo, you will check-in to your hotel for the evening. The remainder of the day will be at your leisure with dinner on your own

    Day 7 – September 5, 2025

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel. Check out and transfer (private vehicle) to the airport based on your flight details.

Check out time is at 11:00am. For guests with late flights, you may store your luggage at Reception until your transfer time.
