Thereafter you will be shown to your rooms for free time to freshen up.
Rejoin in the communal area for high tea and then embark on an afternoon open vehicle game drive. Qualified game rangers will guide you through the bush. Late afternoon is one of the prime times to view wildlife, as it is cooler, and the animals are more active. While there is no telling what you will observe, the reserve is home to countless animals, including the Big Five: elephant, lion, leopard, rhinoceros and Cape buffalo.
Following the game drive, return to the lodge where dinner will be served, allowing you to discuss your evening’s adventures over some South African cuisine and a glass of wine.
Day 2
This morning you will be woken before sunrise. Meet in the reception area for hot beverages, before departing with the rising sun on an early morning game drive. For comfort, it’s always advisable to bring warm clothing, even in the mid-summer, which in South Africa is this time of the year.
Head into the bush in an open-sided 4x4 vehicle, accompanied by knowledgeable rangers and trackers who are skilled at pointing out the various animals.
The reserve sprawls over 60,000 acres of reclaimed Eastern Cape terrain that supports a huge variety of wildlife. You may catch sight of zebras grazing in the grassland, massive hippos wallowing in the mud flats, or herds of antelopes gracefully bounding across the fields. Giraffes often come right up to the vehicles out of curiosity. If you are a bird-lover, you will delight in the chance to see raptors, water birds and unusual ant-eating chats probing the termite mounds. Of course, the Big Five always command attention and they are abundant.
Upon your return, breakfast will be served followed by some free time and then lunch.
In the late afternoon you will re-group for afternoon tea followed by your open-vehicle game drive.
Enjoy drinks and snacks in the bush at sundown before returning to the lodge for dinner.
Day 3
This morning, enjoy one last game drive and then return to the lodge for breakfast before packing your belongings and checking out.
You will be met at the lodge and transferred by coach to the Port Elizabeth Airport for your flight to Richards Bay. Upon arrival in Richards Bay, you will be met and transferred to the Harbor where you will re-join the ship. Drive time is approximately 2 hours.
