pre-cruise health and safety requirements

The below pre-cruise health and safety requirements for this voyage were last updated on May 5, 2023.

Embarking in TOKYO (YOKOHAMA)

As you prepare for your journey, we would like to advise that this sailing has local COVID-19 health & safety regulations which must be adhered to for embarkation. Details can be found below.

Please note, additional travel restrictions for certain nationalities or countries may arise based on the quickly evolving public health environment. It is ultimately the responsibility of the guest to ensure they meet the entry requirements for each destination. If traveling internationally, the countries you are flying to and/or connecting through may have different testing and vaccination/booster stipulations, and we encourage all travelers to visit the government and airport websites of every country they will be traveling to throughout their journey to familiarize themselves with their requirements. Travelers may be denied entry to a country or denied boarding of the ship if all country-specific requirements are not met.

We strongly urge all guests to travel with comprehensive travel insurance with specific COVID-19 coverage, as well as to travel with a latest generation smart phone or tablet with international calling and data turned on in the event that regulations change while you are traveling.

While our ships are staffed with professional medical teams and common prescription medications, anti-virals and therapeutics, our ships do not accept medical insurance and guests must provide payment for all services, including any testing requirements for country entry, regardless of COVID-19 vaccination status.

Routinely evaluated using the latest science and technology, SailSAFE™, our industry leading Health & Safety Program, will continue to create multiple layers of protection against COVID-19 for our guests, crew and the communities we visit. You can find out more about our cleaning, sanitation and air filtration technologies used across our fleet and more at RSSC.com/HealthSafetyProtocols.

Pre-cruise and Onboard Health & Safety Requirements

1) Vaccination Requirements for Ship Embarkation in Tokyo (Yokohama), Japan

Due to regulations in Japan, all guests must present proof of a completed series of one-dose or two-dose primary COVID-19 vaccination regimen at embarkation in Tokyo (Yokohama), Japan to board the ship.

To fulfil the definition of fully vaccinated for this cruise, guests must have had the final dose of a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), European Medicines Agency (EMA) and/or World Health Organization (WHO) authorized, single brand vaccination protocol received 14 days or more prior to embarkation.

A booster dose is not required to be fully vaccinated for this cruise

Vaccines include J&J Janssen, Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca/Oxford (also known as Covishield and Vaxzervria), Sinopharm BIBP, Sinovac and Covaxin. These vaccines are listed as examples. Refer to FDA, EMA or WHO websites for full approved current list.

A mixed vaccination combination of two doses of an FDA or EMA approved/authorized or WHO Emergency Use Listed (EUL) COVID-19 two-dose series with a minimum interval of 17 days will also be accepted. Note: individuals receiving a Janssen COVID-19 vaccine before or after another COVID-19 vaccine are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 14 days after receipt of the single dose of the Janssen vaccine.

Proof of vaccination should be the original vaccination record document issued by either the country's health authority that administered the vaccination or the guest's medical provider that completed the vaccine administration; however, photo of vaccination record document will also be accepted. Electronic vaccination records will be accepted for residents of countries where electronic documentation is the standard issued form. Confirmation email of vaccination appointment will not be accepted. For more details on vaccinations and answers to Frequently Asked Questions, please click here.

2) Pre-Cruise Testing for Ship Embarkation in Tokyo (Yokohama), Japan

For sailings that embark in Japan all guests must provide proof (printed or digital) of a negative COVID-19 PCR test result or a negative COVID-19 Antigen test result within 3 days of embarkation to board the ship.

The test may be administered by a registered test provider or may be a self-test (see below for details).

Registered test provider

Test result documentation from a registered test provider must be provided in English and must include the following information:

  • Your name, which should match the name on your travel documents
  • Your date of birth
  • The result of the test
  • The date and time the test sample was collected
  • The name of the test provider
  • Confirmation of the type of test provided

Self-Testing

Antigen tests may be self-administered. Guests choosing to use a self- administered COVID-19 Antigen test must provide a timestamped photo showing:

  • The negative test result
  • The Antigen test packaging displaying the batch number
  • I.D. (e.g., passport).

Arrival Time

As a reminder, to help ensure a smooth and comfortable embarkation experience, we ask that all guests adhere to their port arrival time selected during the Online Check-In process. Guests arriving outside of the designated arrival time may be requested to return during their port arrival time.

Testing Resources

Should guests require assistance finding a COVID-19 testing location prior to departing home or while traveling, please click here to visit the Test for Travel website. Additionally, we have partnered with Inspire Diagnostics to provide hassle-free, online testing for our guests. Please click here for more information.

3) Face Coverings

At this time, face coverings are recommended but not required for guests on this cruise.

We will continue to update our face covering policy as protocols evolve and change as policies are subject to local oversight of authorities in the jurisdiction(s) in which the ships are sailing. Should local regulations change, guests may be required to wear face coverings with short notice.

Please note, certain airlines and in-destination venues and public transport services may implement their own policies, independent to the local jurisdiction, and we therefore recommend guests to travel with a supply of face-coverings.

4) Isolation and Quarantine Protocols

Guests will only be tested while on board if they report symptoms consistent with COVID-19, and it is deemed a medical necessity by the ship’s doctor, unless required due to local public health requirements. In the event that a guest tests positive for COVID-19 while on board, mandatory isolation protocols must be followed per the current local health and safety regulations. Guests who are deemed to have come into close contact with another guest who has tested positive for COVID-19 while on board, may also be subject to local isolation protocols. All guests are strongly urged to travel with comprehensive travel insurance.
