Description

Follow a spectacularly scenic coastal road into Croatia and explore Dubrovnik’s medieval Old Town, which UNESCO deemed a World Heritage site for its architecture. Before crossing the border, you will stop in the village of Ljuta to watch how flour was ground centuries ago in a water-powered mill. It will be an enlightening demonstration that shows the villagers’ reverence for traditional ways. The past is also celebrated in the oldest district of Dubrovnik as you will discover while walking the main street, known as the Stradun. You might pass the ornate Cathedral of the Assumption, the 16th-century Sponza Palace and the polygonal Onofrio Fountain, which supplied Dubrovnik with water for more than 500 years. During the free time that follows the guided tour, you might walk the ramparts of the 13th-century city walls. The full circuit is a little over a mile, but the views make it well worth the effort.
