Land Programs & Hotels

  • Gain a cultural and historical understanding of Prague by walking through Old Town, exploring Prague Castle, touring a downtown brewery and glass factory and dining at a Michelin-awarded restaurant.

Note: this program begins in Prague, Czech Republic and ends in Civitavecchia, Italy, where guests will embark the ship. Guests will need to fly into Prague (PRG) to begin this program. An Inter-Europe flight from Prague to Rome on Day 4 is included in this program and will be booked by RSSC’s air department.

Special Note: Some sites have steps and may not be wheelchair accessible. This program is not recommended for guests with limited mobility or if a wheelchair or walker is required. Specifically, the Staropramen Brewery, Prague Castle, Strahov Monastery, and Historical Tram/Car are not wheelchair accessible.

    DAY 1

After arriving at the Václav Havel Airport Prague (PRG), you will be met in the arrival hall and transferred to your

hotel with an English-speaking guide. Check-in at the hotel is at 3:00pm. Although every effort will be made to have rooms available sooner, this cannot be guaranteed.

Your hotel which features views of Prague Castle, is located on the banks of the Vltava River, in the heart of Prague’s Old Town. The 14th Century Old Town Hall is a 10 minute walk from the hotel and The Jewish Quarter and the Parizska shopping street are right next to the hotel.

As the remainder of the day will be at leisure with meals on your own, you may wish to ask the hospitality desk to suggest activities and restaurants. You will spend the evening at the President Hotel or similar.

    DAY 2

After breakfast at the hotel, begin the day with a tour of a Czech glassmaking factory. Witness skilled artisans shaping molten glass into exquisite works of art and gain exclusive insights into the centuries-old tradition of Czech glass production.

You will then head to Staropramen for an insider’s tour of the brewery. Enjoy a tasting of several beers that may include a premium pilsner, an unfiltered wheat beer and a dark lager with hint of caramel and chocolate.

After lunch at the brewery, you will return to the hotel for a bit of a rest before embarking on a short walking tour through the cobblestoned streets of Old Town. This area was founded as a market in the 10th century and many of the buildings are incredibly historical, such as the Powder Tower, one of the original 13 entrances to Old Town. Jews were among the earliest settlers here and the synagogue that they built in Old Town is the oldest in central Europe. In the early 20th century, the original Jewish ghetto was beautifully rebuilt in an Art Nouveau style.

Following your exploration of Old Town, return to the hotel for an evening at your leisure.

Note: If this day falls on a Sunday or Monday, a visit will be made to U Medvidku Brewery as Staropramen is closed on these days.

    DAY 3

Following breakfast at the hotel, you will board a historical tram (or a historical car for groups of fewer than 10 guests) and ride through Old Town, seeing different attractions than those from the previous day.

You will then walk to Prague Castle, the largest medieval castle complex in Europe. The entire surrounding area is a UNESCO World Heritage site where you will see attractions that may include the Gothic-style St. Vitus Cathedral, several palaces, a monastery and St. George´s Basilica.

Lunch follows at Mlynec Restaurant, whose chef was the first in the Czech Republic to receive the Michelin Bib Gourmand Award three times.

After lunch, you will return to the hotel. The remainder of the day will be at leisure with dinner on your own.

    DAY 4

After breakfast at the hotel and check out, you will transfer to the Prague airport with an English-speaking guide's assistance. You will then fly to Rome (FCU) and transfer to the ship in Civitavecchia.

Note: Guests are not accompanied on this flight.

After the visit you will return back to your hotel.

Then, you will reach Trevi Fountain, theatrically designed by Nicola Salvi; be sure you throw your coin to ensure your return to Roma.

Next, you will walk to the Piazza Navona, a lovely square constructed in the 15th century and lined with cafes and Baroque palaces. Tivoli is a small town on the lower slopes of the Apennines where the river Aniene plunges in cascades into the Roman plain. The villas testify to Tivoli’s importance as a holiday resort from the Roman period through the Renaissance. Tivoli or Tibur in antiquity came under Roman control in the 4C BC and it was there that a Sibyl prophesied the coming of Jesus Christ to the Emperor Augustus.

Visit Villa D’Este, masterpiece of the Italian Garden, and included in the UNESCO world heritage list. With its impressive concentration of fountains, nymphs, grottoes, plays of water, and music, it constitutes a much-copied model for European gardens in the mannerist and baroque styles.

After the visit, enjoy some free time to wonder through the colorful open-air market selling all sorts of souvenirs, fruits and local products, then enjoy lunch in a beautiful restaurant overlooking another one of Tivoli’s sights, the beautiful Villa Gregoriana. Drive back to the hotel.

In time, you will return to your hotel where the remainder of the day and dinner are on your own.
