OVERVIEW
Enjoy an evening cruise around the island that contains Lübeck’s oldest district and then explore this historical urban setting on an enlightening guided walk. A buffet dinner will be served on board as you cruise the River Trave, a gently flowing waterway that completely encircles the Old Town, a major trading center since its founding in the 12th century. Along the way, the guide will point out and describe the architectural highlights, which the city lights will dramatically illuminate. Lübeck looks absolutely enchanting at night, especially up-close as you stroll the labyrinthine streets that wind through the heart of the city. Although damaged during World War II, much of the Old Town remains, the reason that UNESCO declared it a World Heritage site. You can expect to see the medieval Holsten Gate that became a symbol of the city, the magnificent town hall and the Buddenbrook House, where the famed authors Heinrich and Thomas Mann lived.
