Description

Enjoy the natural beauty and serenity of El Yunque by hiking through the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. National Forest System. To better understand the enormity of the forest and its natural highlights, you will first browse the welcome center El Portal and perhaps watch an introductory film on El Yunque. Then, after taking in the spectacular tropical scenery from atop the Yokahu Observation Tower and pausing for photos of La Coca – a cascade that plummets 85 feet down a sheer cliff – you will hike down the scenic Angelito Trail. It winds through a dense forest of tabonuco trees before ending at the Río Mameyes, a designated Wild and Scenic River. You will be welcome to swim in Las Damas pool there or to simply relax in the serene setting. If you spot bright-red flowers, they will likely be Flor de Magas, the national flower of Puerto Rico.
