Few mammals are more adorable than a baby elephant. They’re giddily playful and wonderfully inquisitive. And, if you’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting one in person, they leave quite the lasting impression. Yet, once full grown, these precious creatures become awesome and awful all at once. No land animal holds a candle to their enormity, strength and power.

They live in two distinct parts of the globe — Africa and Asia — with variations in Africa that expand their species categorization from two to three. But before we get into that, let’s look at some adorable pictures.
