Land Programs & Hotels

  • Explore the natural wonders in two national parks in Chilean Patagonia, a picture-perfect landscape of ancient glaciers, majestic mountains and pristine lakes that you can experience in a variety of ways. Plan your own experience in gorgeous Torres del Paine, where options include a trek to the national park’s iconic granite towers and a breezy photo safari to the most panoramic viewpoints.

Special Note: Guests travelling with Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) or CPAP breathing machines should read further below for airline stipulations with regards to bringing this equipment on tour.

Due to the types of activities on this program, guests should be in good physical health. This program is not available for guests who require use of a wheelchair, walker or can or have any other mobility restrictions. Please see walking difficulty levels for each optional tour on Day’s 3 and 4.

    DAY 1

After proceeding through immigration and customs at the Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport in Santiago, Chile, a local guide will meet you at Exit 3 in the international terminal T2 and will assist in your transfer to The Singular Santiago, Lastarria Hotel for a 3:00 pm check-in.

The remainder of the day will be at your leisure with meals on your own.

Before retiring for the evening please make sure to separate any luggage that you will leave in Santiago while you are in Patagonia. Any luggage left behind will be stored at the hotel and delivered to the ship on Day 5. It will be loaded on board for you. Please ensure that any luggage to be stored is properly labeled with your full name and suite number on the ship. Please remember to bring any valuables and medications with you to Patagonia.

Instructions on where to bring your luggage in the morning will be provided in your Welcome Letter.

    DAY 2

Following breakfast and check-out from the hotel, you will transfer to the airport for the flight to Puerto Natales or Punta Arenas. Flight details are not confirmed yet; however, typically the flight takes about 3 hours and 15 minutes.

Once you arrive at the Puerto Natales or Punta Arenas airport, a staff member from The Singular Patagonia, Puerto Bories Hotel, will greet you and assist in your transfer to the hotel.

Following check-in, you will have time to relax, freshen up and enjoy lunch. In the afternoon, you will tour the cold storage plant adjoining the hotel. The plant once stored goods such as meat and wool that would later be exported to Europe. When constructed more than a century ago, it was the most important cold storage plant in all of Patagonia and it has since been declared a national monument.

Much of the plant’s antique machinery is still intact including the boiler rooms, condensers and blacksmiths’ forges. The dock on the waterway that leads to the sea is also original.

A bit of leisure time follows, during which you might luxuriate in the hotel’s spa (at own cost) or read and hear about the excursions that will be available over the next few days. You may discuss the options over dinner at the hotel before retiring for the evening.

    DAY 3

Note: all excursions are weather dependent. The navigation is shared with other guests from the same hotel.

Following breakfast in the hotel’s Desayunador restaurant, which overlooks, Señoret Channel, you will depart from the hotel dock and cruise toward the Serrano and Balmaceda glaciers. Along the way, you may observe colonies of sea lions and other animal species as wildlife is abundant.

You will disembark in the Bernardo O’Higgins National Park, the largest such park in Chile. After a short hike, you will reach the closest viewpoint of the Serrano glacier, which is part of the Southern Ice Field. You will have plenty of opportunities to snap photos as the guide describes how glaciers form and change over time.

Continuing on, you will cruise to the front of Balmaceda, a hanging glacier whose ice flow abruptly ends at the edge of a mountain precipice. It will be quite the sight.

Lunch follows at a working ranch, where you might horseback ride or hike before returning to the hotel by early evening. The remainder of the day will be at your leisure other than having dinner at the hotel.

Note: you may encounter walking on gravel and dirt terrain, difficulty is basic. Less than 1km of walking.

    DAY 4

Note: as there are different options to visit Torres del Paine, depending on the level of difficulty, guests may need to share the van with other guests from the same hotel. Also, in case guests wish to take another excursion offered in the daily menu, they can do so, and they will share with other guests of the same hotel.

Tour selections are made while you are at the hotel. We cannot take selections in advance.

After a hearty breakfast at Desayunador, you will head for Torres del Paine National Park to begin a full-day excursion that the group will have chosen.

    The options include:

    • Photo Safari

This activity is for those who would like to experience the highlights from scenic viewpoints. You will stop to see the iconic granite peaks and pristine lakes such as Nordenskjo¨ld, Sarmiento and Pehoe´. While trekking, you will learn about the area’s fauna and flora and prehistoric geological formations. Short hikes will bring you to Salto Grande waterfall and the beautiful Laguna Azul lake.

Includes guide, transportation, lunch, snacks and park entrance fee. Difficulty: Basic. Almost no walking is involved, only at one of the stops where there is an option to do a short hike of 30 minutes (around 1.5 km/1 mile), but without inclines.

    • Trekking to the Base of the Towers

For guests that wish to be challenged by a demanding hike to the closest point of the Torres del Paine towers. The trek takes about 8 hours. It starts at Valle Ascencio, continues by Monte Almirante Nieto to the Refugio Chileno mountain hostel, through the forests of Nothofagus and then on a steep rocky incline before arriving at the base of the towers. If weather conditions and visibility permit, you will see the central, north and south towers.

Includes: guide, transportation, trekking poles, lunch, snacks and park entrance. Difficulty: Advanced. Guests must be in very good physical condition and able to walk long distances over various terrain. Trek is 8 hours and approximately 22 km (14 miles). The total tour duration is approximately 12-13 hours during which you will have an elevation gain of 847 meters (2780 ft).

    • The Water Path Trek

You will enter Torres del Paine National Park from the Estancia Lazo cattle ranch on the banks of Laguna Verde. The trek begins on a trail that will unveil spectacular views of the Torres del Paine towers. After walking among lakes and forests of lenga beech trees, you will stop for lunch. Continuing on, you will reach the viewpoint at Toro Lake to enjoy one of the best panoramic views of the park.

Includes: guide, transportation, trekking poles, lunch, snacks and park entrance. Difficulty: Intermediate. You will encounter dirt and gravel terrain with some inclines. The tour duration is around 8-9 hours with approximately 14.5 km (9 miles) of walking total.

Back at the hotel, you will enjoy some leisure time before dinner at The Singular Restaurant.

Note: On Day 3 or Day 4, you will dine on traditional grilled meats at El Asador, a restaurant within The Singular Puerto Bories hotel.

    DAY 5

Following breakfast at Desayunador and check-out from the hotel, you will transfer to the airport in Puerto Natales or Punta Arenas. Guides will assist with luggage and check-in for the flight to Santiago.

Upon landing, collect luggage and transfer to the port of San Antonio for embarkation.

Any luggage that was stored in Santiago will be transferred and loaded on the ship.

  • Enjoy one evening unwinding in Chile’s capital city Santiago and then spend the next three wonderfully relaxing days and nights doing whatever you please at the Colchagua Valley’s most extraordinary hotel and winery, where the options include a cooking class, wine tastings, horseback riding and enjoying the boundless amenities.

Note: Due to the number of steps required to access Vina Vik hotel and the bungalow rooms, this program is not available for guests who require the use of a wheelchair.

    DAY 1

After proceeding through Immigration and Customs at the Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport in Santiago, you will meet your driver inside the terminal after main exit, close to gate N° 3. You will then be transferred directly to the Ritz Carlton Hotel or similar.

Check in upon arrival has been included in the cost of the program.

The remainder of the day will be at leisure and meals are on your own.

The hotel is located within walking proximity to a variety of restaurants and bars. Your hotel concierge will be happy to assist with any dinner recommendations and reservations.

Note: There can be up to a 10-12-minute walk depending on your arrival gate to get to Customs and Immigration. Our local team will be waiting for you as you exit the luggage claim area.

    DAY 2

After breakfast at the hotel and check out, you will be met and transferred (2.5-3-hour drive depending on traffic) to the Colchagua Valley, whose name in the local indigenous language means “valley of small lagoons”. The land was originally the home of Mapuche warrior tribes and later marked the southern boundary of the Inca Empire.

Upon reaching Millahue (in the Cachapoal Valley), you will arrive at Viña Vik, an architecturally extraordinary hotel and winery. A visionary blend of wine, architecture, landscape and luxury, this property has always placed innovation and science at the center of everything it does.

Much of the hotel is built into the natural landscape and capped with an incredible undulating titanium roof that can be seen from miles around. From the winery below and when the sun is shining, the roof appears to be made of gold. This stunning feature was built this way to pay homage to the valley which was nicknamed “Lugar de Oro or Golden Place” by the native Mapuche people. Norwegian entrepreneur Alexander Vik, with his keen eye for designing stunning buildings, has truly created a property that is like no other.

The hotel features twenty-two individually decorated and distinctive suites and seven bungalows with floor-to-ceiling windows that let in the breath-taking views. Decorated according to individual themes, the suites and bungalows feature exclusive art and design, from elegant pieces of furniture to inspired murals and decorations, as well as exquisite sculptures and paintings. Your luxurious Pura Vik Bungalow includes 360-degree views, a terrace and private hot tub.

Upon arrival, your visit will start with a tour and tasting of the renowned wines of Vik Winery. As you look around the entire property you will see 4,400 hectares of astonishing Chilean wilderness in which only approximately 327 hectares of vines have been planted. This majestic and natural landscape is composed of 12 valleys, each one with its own micro-climate, distinct exposures, all within a wind-tunnel cooled by Pacific coastal breezes and winds from high up in the Andes mountains that provide VIK with enormous complexity and exceptional variety.

After your tour of the winery, you will proceed to the hotel for check in and lunch at Mila Mila Restaurant.

Following a short tour to become acquainted with the amenities of the hotel, you will spend the remainder of the day participating in whichever activity you choose.

Throughout your stay, take time to unwind at the cantilevered slate pool that extends out over the valleys and the lake below. (Insider tip: The sunsets are quite spectacular from the pool deck!). Enjoy delicious meals that are served in a variety of settings, from the indoor dining room to the expansive outdoor terraces that look out onto the valley, lake and vineyard or even in their newly opened and rustic “garden to table” BBQ restaurant.

At the spa, you may wish to pamper yourself and indulge in a massage, facial or body scrub using products made from grapes grown on the property (additional cost) and in the evening perhaps enjoy stargazing beneath incredibly clear night skies.

Optional activities that are included during your stay are:

•Orchard tour with seeds and flower tasting

•Wine tasting paired with creamy chocolates

    •Mixology class

    •Bicycling, hiking and bird watching

•Enjoying the hotel sauna, swimming pool and game room

Additional activities may be available for purchase. Your Vina Vik Concierge will be able to assist in setting up your schedule.

Note: There may be other hotel guests participating in the same experiences.

Later in the day, dinner will be provided at Mila Mila Restaurant.

Another insider tip: Be sure to check out the “art wall” in the restaurant – see if you can spot the RSSC logo and don’t be afraid to add your own personal touch!

Note: There are approximately 25-30 steps up to enter the hotel from the vehicle drop off area. Pura Vik Bungalows at Vina Vik are separate from the main building and along with the 25-30 steps to go down once you exit the main building, there is also a downward sloping brick paved driveway and then approximately 8-10 steps down to reach each bungalow.

Transfer note: For guests who would prefer a quicker transfer, the hotel has a helicopter pad and transfers may be arranged independently from Santiago to the hotel.

    DAY 3

After breakfast, the RSSC group will set out on a horseback ride along trails with immediate views of the vineyard and mountains. On the ride, note how the winery building has been designed to blend seamlessly into the landscape and can barely be seen over the vines depending on your vantage point. After returning, refresh and then proceed to a cooking class activity. This experience includes a visit to the organic vegetable garden, where guests will be able to hand pick the various ingredients that will later be used in the cooking class. The experience ends with a tasting of the dishes paired with Vik’s iconic wines.

The remainder of the day will be at your leisure. Choose to relax or participate in one of the optional activities. Please consult with the hotel concierge for a list of your included optional activities operating on this day.

Dinner is included at Mila Mila Restaurant.

Note: Horseback ride is not mandatory but is included for our group. The ride is slow and easy around the vineyard with several stops along the way for photos should you wish, therefore previous experience is not necessary. Please check with Reception for meeting location and time.

    DAY 4

After breakfast, the day can be spent doing whatever you wish. Please consult with the hotel concierge for a list of your included optional activities operating on this day. We recommend enjoying lunch at the restaurant adjacent to the winery for lunch.

This evening, enjoy a BBQ Countryside group dinner to crown your visit at Viña VIK Hotel.

    DAY 5

After breakfast at the hotel and check out, bid farewell to your Vik hosts and drive towards the San Antonio terminal where you will check in for your cruise. Drive time is approximately 2.5-3 hours depending on traffic.

Following lunch in the national park, you will travel along the catwalks of the upper and lower circuits, which will present different perspectives of Devil’s Throat.

Later in the day, you will transfer to your hotel on the Brazilian side of the National Park for check in and dinner.

Please note that you may get extremely wet on the zodiacs depending on how close your boat gets to the falls. Along the way, your guide will explain all about the trees, birds, falls and more.

Note: Dry bags are provided for belongings. The zodiac loading area is not accessible to wheelchairs. There are approximately 100 steps down / up to reach the boats with no ramps. The zodiac tour is optional and any guests wishing to remain ashore can do so. There are shaded areas and benches to sit on throughout the park. Guests may wish to carry some dry clothing or bring a bathing suit to change into after this adventure.

In time, you will walk back to the Belmond Hotel Das Cataratas for the evening. Dinner will be served at the hotel.

In time, you will visit a temple deeper in the jungle and learn about Guarani rituals of initiation and baptism. To enhance your understanding of this special culture, you will also visit homes in the community and see animal traps and traditional crafts made from natural materials.

You will then transfer to the Iguazu airport in Argentina for a return flight to Buenos Aires. A box lunch is provided during the transfer. Upon landing, you will proceed to the hotel where you stayed on Day 1. Guests will be re-united with any stored luggage. Dinner is on own.

  • Experience Buenos Aires like a local porteño by watching a traditional tango performance, visiting atmospheric neighborhoods and enjoying an Argentine asado of grilled meats at country ranch.

    DAY 1

Following disembarkation, you will begin a half-day sightseeing tour of Buenos Aires, starting in the neighborhood La Boca, where you will view El Caminito, a street that is an open-air museum of sorts full of brightly colored buildings. Some claim the tango originated here around 1870, and tango dancers are often seen performing impromptu in the streets.

Continuing on, you will pass the city hall and Metropolitan Cathedral, which is adorned with frescoes and elaborate artwork. You will also see Casa Rosado, the executive mansion. President Juan Peron and his wife Eva, more affectionately known as Evita, delivered numerous speeches from the balcony.

Then, it’s on to the affluent La Recoleta neighborhood and the Recoleta Cemetery, the final resting place for Argentina’s wealthy and powerful. It holds thousands of grandiose mausoleums containing the remains of generals, sports figures and most famously Evita.

A snack at Café Tortoni follows. This historic cafe has served as the artistic and intellectual capital of Buenos Aires since 1858, hosting notable guests such as Argentine author Jorge Luis Borges. Founded in 1858, the café is the oldest coffee shop in the country.

After touring the city, you will transfer to your hotel where the remainder of the day will be at your leisure. Lunch and dinner will be on your own.

    Day 2

Following breakfast at the hotel, you will spend the day at a traditional estancia ranch in the countryside, a beautiful land that is home to the gaucho. The owners will be your hosts, and during your stay they will regale you with stories about the differences between modern country life and country life years ago.

Lunch will be a hearty asado of grilled meats with empanadas, accompanied by excellent Argentinean wines.

The entertainment will be just as outstanding. You will enjoy folk songs and dances, equestrian activities and an extraordinary demonstration of traditional gaucho skills, such as ring races and horse races and games.

Following your time at the estancia, you will return to the hotel to spend the evening. Dinner will be on your own.

    DAY 3

Following breakfast at the hotel, you will spend most of the daylight hours as you please. The hotel is centrally located in Buenos Aires, and there is plenty to enjoy nearby, including museums, shops and restaurants.

Your evening will be spent watching an authentic tango performance over dinner. Although the exact origin of the tango is unclear, there is no denying that the sultry dance is mesmerizing. The rhythmic music and mournful lyrics are just as alluring, as they often tell a story of lust, betrayal and loneliness. You don’t have to speak the language to feel the passion of tango.

After the tango performance, you will return to the hotel for the evening.

    DAY 4

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel before checking out (by 12nn) and transferring to the Ezeiza International Airport for your flight home. Transfers will be set up based on the flight details provided. Should you have a late flight, luggage storage is available at the hotel.

The name Iguazú means Great Waters in Guarani. At 80m high and 3km wide, the Iguazú Falls span the border between Argentina and Brazil and is made up of many cascades that generate vast sprays of water producing one of the most spectacular waterfalls known to mankind.

This natural wonder is taller and twice as wide than Niagara Falls and combines 275 falls in a massive, magnificent cascade stretching for nearly 1.7 miles. Situated on the border between Argentina and Brazil, its waters pass over lush, sub-tropical greenery. One of the most breathtaking sights you may see during your tour is the fluttering of more than 700 species of butterflies that make this area their home. On this adventure, you will visit the northeastern section of Argentina - an area that is inhabited by over 400 different varieties of birds and marks one of the most beautiful landscapes of the world.

Upon arrival, you will be met by your local guide and then transferred to Iguazú Falls National Park. A buffet lunch will be served at La Selva Restaurant shortly after your arrival.

Following lunch, enjoy a motorized boat cruise (zodiac adventure ride) which allows you to view the falls from water level and get close enough to feel the spray and energy created by this great mass of falling water.

When your flight lands in El Calafate, you will transfer to the 4-star Xelena Hotel in El Calafate. Located in the southwestern tip of the Argentine Patagonia, the town is known for its easy access to the Los Glaciares National Park, home of the spectacular Perito Moreno glacier and hundreds of others.

After lunch on own, set off on a true 4×4 expedition with a skilled driver where you will access the most remote places of Deep Patagonia. Leaving from El Calafate drive to the south and reach panoramic points from which you will contemplate the immensity of the landscape. In view are the Verlika and Baguales hills that mark the southern limit with Chile.

Fossilized oyster reefs, unexplored chenques (Tehuelches burial sites), various native flora and fauna are some of the natural riches that you will see along the way.

One stop is made approximately 300 meters (984 feet) from the southern wall of the glacier, to take a closer look at the landscape.

Return to the National Park for lunch at one of its restaurants. After lunch approach the glacier by walking down catwalks that will present several other panoramic viewpoints of this wonderful creation of Mother Nature. Chances are, you will see and hear large chunks of ice calving from the glacier and thundering into the water of Lago Argentino. It will be an experience that you will not soon forget.
