Europe & Mediterranean
Barcelona, Spain

One of Europe’s most visually stunning cities, Barcelona balances the medieval intimacy of its Gothic Quarter with the grace and distinction of the wide boulevards in the Moderniste Eixample. It was the home of architect Antoni Gaudí, whose buildings are the most startling statements of Modernisme. The triumphant culmination of Barclona's rebirth was the staging of the 1992 Olympics, for which freeways were installed, stadiums renovated, and promenades created.

Explore Barcelona through the eyes of famed architect Antoni Gaudi during this scenic and memorable visit to Park Güell.

Depart the pier for the drive to Park Güell, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located on a Barcelona hilltop high above the city, this lovely park is one of famed architect Antoni Gaudí's most important creations and features some of his most significant structures. En route, your guide will provide commentary about the city and its architecture. Park Güell was to be a planned city, but that idea never came to pass. It is now a delightful park filled with whimsical Gaudí creations, some of which are covered in mosaic. Perhaps the most original of the many different sections is the area of leaning columns that was once the marketplace. The columns support a terrace, a colorful undulating balustrade and a bench.

Leaving Park Güell, your drive will continue on to the Sagrada Familia, possibly the most famous and notable of all of Gaudí's work. Here, you will take a guided tour of the church's exterior. Unfinished at the time of his death, it is now under the direction of the architect Subirat. You will then proceed for a visit to another famous Gaudí monument, La Pedrera. This apartment building is one of Barcelona's most renowned highlights, and is best known for its extraordinary architectural features. Here, you will explore its fascinating interior and rooftop.

Following your visit, you will re-board your coach for the return drive to the pier.

Please note: At times, the visit to La Pedrera is unavailable due to high ticket demand and limited availability. On such occasions, Casa Batlló, another of Gaudí's architectural jewels and a sight of exceptional interior beauty, will replace La Pedrera. This tour involves approximately 30 minutes of walking at Park Güell, 15 minutes of walking at the Sagrada Familia and many steps to climb. This tour is not recommended for guests with limited mobility or guests who utilize a wheelchair
