Apia, Western Samoa-port

Samoa is made up of nine islands about 1700 miles north east of New Zealand. The islands were originally settled about 1000 BC by a thriving Polynesian culture. In Apia, explore the colorful Maketi Fou (food market) on Fugalei Street, and the flea market – the perfect souvenir haunt where you’ll find everything from clubs and kava bowls to Samoan sarongs, baskets, and jewelry. Discover alluring blue lagoons, serene tropical beaches, cascading waterfalls, and lush rainforests. On Mount Vaea lies the beautifully restored home of author Robert Louis Stevenson. Tempt your taste buds with ocean-fresh fish wrapped in banana leaves and cooked in an umu , an earth oven of hot stones.

Experience the picturesque beauty and historic landmarks of Samoa during this scenic and informative tour of Apia.

Depart the pier for a sightseeing drive through Apia. Along the way, you will see Mulinu'u, the sacred burial grounds of Samoan royalty, the Independence Monuments, Parliament House, the Lands and Titles Court, and the German Monument, where the German flag was raised during its occupation of Samoa.

Next, a stop will be made at the fresh produce market. Here, you will find an abundance of fresh produce and fruit grown in the rich volcanic soil, along with handicrafts, souvenirs, kava, local delicacies and more.

Afterward, your drive will continue on through plantations and the University of the South Pacific agricultural campus, where the crossbreeding of various crops takes place. A visit will then be made to the Moamoa Theological College. Here, you will have an opportunity to view an old cathedral featuring exquisite Parisian stained-glass windows and intricate Samoan décor.

Your last stop is at Vailima, the former home of Robert Louis Stevenson, which has been converted into a museum. During your guided tour of this tropical haven, you will explore the well-maintained grounds highlighted by local indigenous plants and flowers. Your visit will conclude with cultural entertainment, chilled seasonal fresh fruit, bottled water and fruit juice served on the museum's patio before rejoining your coach for the brief return drive to the pier.
