Battlefields of the Falklands
Duration: 4 hours
Tour Code: MPN-004
This tour takes you to Fitzroy and three Battle Memorials depicting the fierce battle between Argentina and Britain in 1982.
Fitzroy and Port Pleasant are where the British Logistic Landing ships Sir Galahad and Sir Tristram were bombed by Argentine Skyhawk aircraft while transferring troops, ammunition and equipment here on June 8, 1982. This was in preparation for the British advance towards Stanley and to recapture mountains surrounding the capital occupied by Argentine troops. Here you can see memorials for the Welsh Guards and Royal Fleet Auxiliary. Also, some personal memorials have been constructed on the hillside above. Your guide will be a local battlefield expert who has lived in the Falklands for over 20 years and has dedicated much of his time to researching the 1982 Conflict, meeting war veterans and hiking the once battle-fierce mountains and valleys of 1982. Enjoy some tea, coffee and snacks at the Fitzroy Social Club during your visit.
Please Note: This tour includes approximately 1-hour of walking/standing, at times over unpaved surfaces. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests and those with mobility concerns are cautioned to carefully evaluate their personal level of stamina and ability.
