Caiman Spotting
Duration: 3 hours
Tour Code: MAO-004
Begin with a moonlit riverboat cruise into the dense jungle backwaters, where you'll cross a short gangplank to a small motorized canoe. Under the expert direction of your native guide, you'll glide silently into the flooded forest and its countless overgrown tributaries. Armed only with a flashlight, your guide will attempt to locate caimans by startling them with the light, making their eyes look like rubies in the night! While the caiman is hypnotized by the bright light, you will slowly approach it until your guide is close enough to attempt to catch the caiman with his bare hands and actually lift it out of the water for all to see. When you have taken photographs, the young caiman will be returned, unharmed, to the water. After the thrill of this incredible hunt, you will transfer back to the riverboat for the return to the Manaus floating pier.
Please note: Although there is very little walking involved in this tour, guests must be able to get on to and off the riverboat (by a gangplank) and to a motorized canoe, otherwise they may be asked to remain on the main river boat. Comfortable walking closed-toe shoes are recommended.
