Longyearbyen town is in the Svalbard archipelago of Norway, which is located north of the Arctic Circle and situated on the Isfjorden in Spitsbergen, Svalbard's main island.
Departing the pier, a brief sightseeing tour will take you through the small town Longyearbyen and to the Spitsbergen Airship Museum. The Museum opened on November 15, 2008 and presents the history of three airships and their importance in the Arctic. These ships were the America, the Norge and the Italia, which all started from Svalbard. Aside from taking part in Polar expeditions, the Italia also took part in search and rescue expeditions, where among others, famous Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen lost his life. The exhibition consists of pictures, documents, film, and different models of landscapes, ships, airplanes and airships.
Following your visit at the museum, you will re-board your coach for the short drive back to the pier.
Please note: This tour involves approximately 90-minutes of easy walking/standing. The tour is available to guests who utilize a wheelchair who have a collapsible wheelchair, are able to both make their way on and off the coach and have a companion to assist them. Those guests with mobility concerns are cautioned to evaluate their personal level of ability and stamina. Warm clothing and flat, sturdy footwear is suggested as the Arctic-region may be covered by snow and ice. The transportation is not air-conditioned.
