Cold War Prelude - Occupation of Bornholm

Light Activity /Walking

Duration: 4 hours

Tour Code: RON-001

Explore the town of Ronne and its history in this tour that highlights the occupation of the Danish island of Bornholm.

When World War II ended and Europe was liberated, Bornholm remained occupied by Soviet troops for another 11 months, as they considered Bornholm to be a part of the eastern front.

Your tour begins at the pier where you will join your coach for a short drive to Bornholm's Museum. Here, a detailed explanation from your guide will provide understanding about the nature of the Soviet occupation and their plans for the area. Following your time here, you will make your way to the Bornholm Defense Museum, where the focus will be on the military aspects of the occupation and the bombardment of Ronne and Neksoe in 1945.

Rejoining your coach, you'll enjoy a panoramic drive through Ronne, passing several sights related to the Soviet occupation, including the Soviet graves at Allinge Church. Before returning to the pier, a stop will be made at a local café for light refreshments and snacks.

Please note: This tour includes approximately 2 hours of moderate walking and standing, some of it over cobblestone streets. There are some steps to negotiate at the venues. This tour may not be suitable for wheelchair guests and those with mobility concerns are cautioned to evaluate their personal level of ability and stamina.
