Dracula's Haunts and Best of Bucharest

Explore Transylvania’s notorious Dracula Castle and surrounding countryside, followed by a day in Romania’s enchanting Bucharest, whose grand architecture earned it the nickname “Little Paris.”
After departing from the pier in Constanta, you will drive inland to Transylvania, a beautiful part of Romania bounded by the Carpathian mountain range and often defined by the legend of Dracula.
Following lunch at the traditional Vatra Neamului Restaurant , you will continue driving into the mountains, through the bucolic Prahova Valley and on to Bran Castle. Built in the 14th century on a steep cliff with exceptional views of the surrounding land, the castle once offered protection from invading Turks.
A century later Vlad Tepes, known as Vlad the Impaler stayed in the castle. Known for his cruelty, Dracula (his family name) later became associated with the namesake, blood-thirsty vampire in the 1897 novel “Dracula.” A legend was born, which continues today.
While touring the infamous castle, you may see secret passages, walk through the enclosed courtyard, take in the view from the balcony, and explore the surrounding gardens. It’s a memorable experience, enhanced by the story of Dracula.
Continuing on, you will enjoy a picturesque drive to the four-star “Hotel New Montana” in the Sinaia Resort, where you will have dinner and spend the evening.
Following breakfast, you will drive to Romania’s capital of Bucharest, known for its wide tree-lined boulevards and Belle Epoque buildings. It’s the country’s wealthiest, most elegant city and it shows most everywhere.
Your first visit will be to the Palace of the Parliament, the world’s second largest building after the Pentagon.
Built in the 1980s to be the headquarters of the country’s Communist government, the 12-story, more than 1,000-room building, now houses the Romanian Parliament. As you will discover, there is no end to the extravagance of materials and furnishings. There is even a nuclear bunker inside, and one of the rooms features a sliding roof large enough for a helicopter to fly through.
Leaving the impressive Parliament, you will drive to Old Town where you will enjoy a delightful lunch at “Caru ce Bere” which translates to “the Beer Wagon”. This is a famous Bavarian style restaurant in the very heart of Bucharest, built in 1879. One hundred years ago it was the place where the old aristocracy of Bucharest gathered. Over the years, its sparkling environment and reputation has been preserved. Lunch will be accompanied with live music allowing you the opportunity to become familiar with the true Romanian spirit.
Following lunch, you will leave the city and drive through the scenic Muntenia region. Pass the famed Danube River on the return to Constanta, where you will re-board the ship.
