Corners of Erice
Duration: 4 hours
Tour Code: TPS-004
Departing from the pier, you will embark on a drive through the Sicilian countryside as you make your way to Erice, a typical Sicilian town that sits high atop a mountain overlooking Trapani and the Mediterranean Sea. This unique and fascinating city offers up incredible panoramic views of the surrounding region and the archipelago of Egadi, along with giving visitors a glimpse of what life was like here centuries ago in the medieval aspect of its buildings, its alleyways, churches and its well-preserved walls.
The town gets its name from Venere Ericina, the goddess of fertility. Legend tells us that it was here, almost ten centuries ago, that the son of Venus and Poseidon established a town and built a temple to honor his mother, the goddess of love. During your visit you will have the opportunity to stroll the narrow cobblestone streets of the historical town center, enjoying the magical ambience found in its well-preserved centuries-old buildings, hidden courtyards filled with colorful flowers and small handicraft shops. You will also see the 12th century Cathedral, the Balio Gardens and the Venus Castle.
Before re-boarding your coach for the drive back to the pier, you will have some free time to explore this charming town where time seems to stand still and hidden treasures can be found around each corner.
