Bonifacio Postcards
Duration: 3 hours
Tour Code: PCH-004
This sweeping excursion through picturesque southern Corsica offers an immense variety of perspectives that includes pristine beaches, quaint villages and ruggedly rolling terrain.
Depart from the pier and drive south through several nature reserves that stretch to the very tip of Corsica. A bounty of wildlife, especially marine birds, thrives in the reserves that extend out into the crystal-clear sea.
Before long, you will come upon the village of Bonafacio and stop for photos of its Pertusato lighthouse, which was painstakingly constructed in 1838. It sits atop a rocky outcrop so steeply sided that the building materials had to be brought in on donkeys. The views of this beautifully barren landscape are truly stunning.
Then, edging up the western coast of the island, you will soon arrive at Tonnara beach. Known for its consistent winds, this resort area attracts windsurfers year-round, and you may well see them darting across the surface of the bay.
Next, you will pass through the classic commune of Monacia and on to lovely Roccapina. Like much of southern Corsica, Roccapina is an area dotted with granite outcrops, the most famous being the Lion of Roccapina. With a little imagination, you can easily make out the shape of a lion in the rock.
After pausing for photos, you will venture inland via a route that takes you through an unexpectedly flat plain near Figari and lastly back to the pier in Porto Vecchio.
Please note: This tour is primarily panoramic in nature with very limited optional walking/standing at the stops where there may be some uneven ground. The tour is available to wheelchair guests who have a collapsible wheelchair, are able to make their own way on and off the coach and have an able-bodied companion to assist them. Weather appropriate clothing; sunglasses; and flat, comfortable shoes are recommended. The order of the sites viewed or visited may vary.
