Ajaccio, France-port

Ajaccio is the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte, and the Napoleonic legacy dominates the city in its statues and street names. Surrounded by green-hued mountains, with shady palm fringed squares and pleasure boats bobbing in the bay, Ajaccio offers guests a pleasing number of sites to explore. View the Musee Fesch, with its fine collection of Renaissance paintings, and Napoleon’s birthplace, the Casa Bonaparte, now a museum. Corsica boasts many signature products that reflect its natural resources, and this excursion offers a rare and fascinating insight into how they're made. Journeying into the wooded hills on the outskirts of Ajaccio, you will first visit a family-operated nougat factory, where you can sample this delightful treat. While the ingredients may vary, they traditionally include honey, nuts, chocolate and liqueurs, which are locally grown or produced. Traveling on, you will stop at an essential oil distillery and discover how local herbs and flowers are carefully transformed into fragrant perfumes and oils. The land around Ajaccio is also ideal for the production of wine because of its elevation and climate. You will have the chance to taste some of the area's most distinct wines at a well-known vineyard, where the grapes are nurtured as they have been for centuries.
