Walking enthusiasts and nature lovers will not want to miss this tour that offers a unique and close-up view of one of America's most popular National Parks. Not only will you enjoy an invigorating hike along the scenic trails of Acadia, you will also be treated to a beautiful drive to the top of Cadillac Mountain for a spectacular 360-degree view of the Park and Mount Desert Island.
Your tour begins with a drive along a portion of the scenic Park Loop Road en route to your trail head. Disembarking your coach, your experienced naturalist guide will then lead you on a 1.5 to 2 mile hike through some of Acadia's most spectacular landscapes. As you make your way along the trail, your guide will introduce you to the diverse ecosystem of the area as well as the geology, natural history and legends of the Park. You'll learn about the founding fathers of Acadia and the important role John D. Rockefeller and George Dorr played in the development of the Park.
Following your hike, you will re-board the coach for a scenic drive to the top of Cadillac Mountain (weather permitting), highest point on North America's Eastern seaboard. With a 360-degree panoramic view, you will have the opportunity to take in spectacular panoramic views and enjoy photo opportunities of Acadia National Park and Mount Desert Island. This wonderful vantage point allows you to see how glaciers have carved through the granite cliffs to form a breathtaking landscape of lush forest, lakes and valleys.
Following your stop at Cadillac Mountain, you will transfer back to the pier in Bar Harbor.
Please note: This tour includes a significant amount of walking, at times strenuous and over uneven natural surfaces. The tour is not available to guests who utilize a wheelchair or those guests with mobility concerns. Participants should be in good physical condition. Weather appropriate, layered clothing that should include a water/wind-proof jacket and sturdy, comfortable walking shoes are recommended. In the event of adverse or foggy weather, a stop will be made at Jordan Pond House.
