Ports and Excursions of Asia/Pacific

Port Vila, Vanuatu-port

Vanuatu has been inhabited for thousands of years, the oldest archaeological evidence dating to 2000 BC. In 1605, the Portuguese explorer Pedro Fernández de Quirós became the first European to reach the islands, believing it to be part of Terra Australis. Europeans began settling the islands in the late 18th century, after British explorer James Cook visited the islands on his second voyage, and gave them the name New Hebrides. Nestled in the verdant embrace of Erakor Rainforest, discover the ancient folklore and culture of a Melanesian village. Hike to the top of a 65-foot cascading waterfall, and enjoy a refreshing swim in a rock pool and incomparable views. Embark on a sailing yacht bound for the Pango Peninsula and snorkel the turquoise waters of Paradise Cove. Markets sell everything from island jewelry to gorgeous handicraft bags, to traditional sarongs.

Cascades and Rainforest Walk

Moderate Activity/Walking

Duration: 2 1/2 hours

Tour Code: PVL-5234

Indulge your senses with the pristine natural beauty of Vanuatu during this rainforest walk and waterfall experience in Port Vila.

Depart the pier for the brief transfer to the base of the beautiful cascading waterfalls, then commence your guided walk up a steep, uphill pathway through the jungle landscape and on to the falls. En route, stops will be made to swim in the rainforest's naturally-eroded rock pools. Upon reaching the cascade at the top of a 65-foot waterfall, you can relax with another refreshing swim in a rock pool and take in spectacular views from the lookout.

Following your visit, your guide will lead you on the walk back down to the base. Here, refreshments will be served before rejoining your coach for the return drive to the pier.

Please note: Wear your swimsuit under a cover-up with sturdy footwear you will not mind getting wet and muddy, and bring sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses and a towel from the ship. This tour involves a very steep climb up a jungle pathway that can be muddy and slippery in spots. It is also necessary to walk through shallow water streams and climb over river stones and large boulders. There will be some rope handrails to help you along the way. This tour is recommended for guests in good physical condition.
