Mumbai (Bombay), India-port

Mumbai, formerly known as Bombay, is the capital of the Indian state of Maharashtra and the most populous city in the world. This bustling city offers a seemingly endless array of sights and cultural activities, and is the commercial and entertainment capital of India. Mumbai is home to India’s Hindi film and television industry, known as “Bollywood.” Mumbai is also one of the few cities that accommodates a national park, the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, within its city limits.

DAY 1

After an early breakfast, depart the pier in Mumbai, formerly Bombay, and drive through the city en route to the airport. With a population exceeding 18 million, this one time group of low lying mud flats is now India's economic power base and her most industrialized city. It's bustling with activity of incredible diversity and complexity. Her color, elegance and wealth corresponds with her historic struggle against poverty. Certain affluent areas give Bombay an air of mini-Manhattan! The most admirable features of Bombay's cityscape are the Gothic revival buildings raised in the last century after its original fortifications were removed. Indeed it is because of these buildings that Bombay is often cited as a `unique Victorian city'.

On arrival at the airport, you will receive your boarding passes and proceed through security before boarding the flight to Delhi. Refreshments and snacks are served aloft.

On arrival into Delhi, buses take you on a scenic drive to Agra with vistas of India's vast rural farming countryside. Along the way, stop at the Jaypee Greens Golf Course Resort for a buffet lunch along with wine, beer soft drinks and mineral water.

You will arrive at you hotel in Agra in the evening and check-in.

Agra, the city of Taj Mahal, was one of the grand cities of South Asia. With the arrival of the Mughals in 1526 led by Babur, Agra entered a completely new era during the reign of emperors Akbar, Jehangir and Shah Jahan. Akbar made it a great center for learning, art, commerce and culture. Its cosmopolitan bazaars and its strategic location on the river Jamuna, was altogether a worthier setting for the focus of an empire.

Following some time at leisure, you will enjoy the classical dance form of Kathak in the ballroom, along with wine, beer and soft drinks. A buffet dinner follows the dance performance. This Mughal Court dance arose from the fusion of Hindu and Muslim cultures during the Mughal era, characterized by rhythmic footwork, spectacular spins, mime and gestures that are a dramatic representation of themes from Persian poetry synthesized with Hindu mythology.

Overnight in Agra.

DAY 2

Discover the monumental Taj Mahal at dawn. Tea, Coffee, juices and rolls are served in the lobby, prior to our departure.

The Taj Mahal, with its incredible lacy white grandeur, is perhaps the most perfect architectural monument in the world. In memory of his wife, the great Mughal emperor Shah Jehan planned this most extravagant and incomparable monument built for love. Amazingly graceful from any angle, it is the close up detail, which is really astounding.

Return to the hotel for breakfast.

Morning options

A) 10:00 - 12:30p.m.

Visit the Agra Fort, a World Heritage Site credited to Emperor Akbar, India's great visionary. His sons and theirs added to this imposing structure situated by the banks of the Yamuna River. The astonishing palaces, mosques and audience halls contained within its massive walls of red sandstone became once more a monumental mission of the Mughal Empire embellished by the artistic fusion of Islamic and Hindu tradition.

B) 10:00-12:30pm

Visit the Tomb of Itmad-Ud-Daulah in the old city, the first Mughal structure
