Called ‘the fairest cape in the whole circumference of the earth’ and regarded as one of the world’s most beautiful cities, Cape Town offers museums, lush parks and shops. Impressive mountains, magnificent beaches and outstanding wineries add to the attraction. Ride a cable-car to the top of famous flat-topped Table Mountain and gaze at the mosaic of towering mountains, verdant valleys and the confluence of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. The historical highlight is Robben Island, once the prison holding such outstanding anti-apartheid leaders as Nelson Mandela.

POST - CAPE TOWN & WINELANDS

Code: CPTL02

Day 1 - December 21st, 2014

Upon arriving in Cape Town, you will disembark from the ship and begin a tour of the city's landmarks, including flat-topped Table Mountain, if the weather permits.

While much of the tour involves driving through areas such as the historical neighborhood of Bo-Kaap and along the Atlantic seaboard, there are stops along the way. In particular, you will pause briefly for photos at Maiden's Cove, where you will enjoy a spectacular view of the Twelve Apostles mountain range. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to walk through Company Gardens, a large public park and botanical garden in the heart of Cape Town.

After checking in at the Southern Sun Cullinan Hotel, you will have the remainder of the day to settle in and explore. There are plenty of shops nearby and a variety of inspired restaurants to dine on your own.

Day 2 - December 22nd, 2014

After breakfast at the hotel, you will travel inland to Stellenbosch, an idyllic town nestled in a mountain valley. It is named after Governor Simon van der Stel, who discovered the broad fertile valley of the Eerste River in 1680. Today, Stellenbosch is best known as a major university town, characterized by Cape Dutch-style architecture and leafy streets so beautiful that some of them have been declared national monuments.

After an enlightening orientation drive through Stellenbosch, you will enjoy an hour or so of free time to explore the town on your own. You might meander Die Braak market square, visit the Toy and Miniature Museum or the Stellenbosch Museum, which consists of four houses from four eras: Schreuder House, 1709; Bletterman House, 1788; Grosvenor House, 1800 to 1830, and the OM Bergh House, 1850.

The surrounding countryside is the heart of South Africa's wine country, as you will see by visiting one of the most well known of the hundreds of wineries in the Cape. Enjoy a wine tasting and cellar tour followed by lunch on the selected wine estate.

After returning to Cape Town and the Southern Sun Cullinan Hotel along the picturesque N2 national road, you will have the remainder of the day to do as you please, enjoying dinner on your own.

Day 3 - December 23rd, 2014

After breakfast at the hotel, you will travel along one of South Africa's most scenic routes towards Cape Point, the southwest tip of Africa, which was first sighted by Portuguese explorer Bartolomeu Dias in 1488. Along the way, you will pass through the suburbs of Green Point and Sea Point to Camps Bay, behind which are the impressive peaks of the Twelve Apostles. Continuing along the Atlantic seaboard towards lovely Hout Bay, you will pick up Chapman's Peak Drive (provided it's open), one of the world's most spectacular coastal roads. In time, you will arrive at the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, a land of dramatic sea cliffs rich in wildlife and native flora, and then on to Cape Point.

Here, you will ride the Flying Dutchman Funicular up an incline of dense native vegetation known as fynbos to the lighthouse, which boasts the most powerful beacon on the South African coast. At night, it can be seen from nearly 40 miles away.

Then, following a seafood lunch in nearby Simon's Town, you will stop in Boulders Beach to observe an African penguin colony, one of the few on the mainland. There are thousands of these flightless birds roaming freely about the beach, diving into the surrounding waters and often braying much like donkeys. Adult African penguins are about two feet tall and sport a black stripe across their breasts.

From Boulders Beach, you will continue driving north past the fishing harbor of Kalk Bay, before joining Boyes Drive, which affords magnificent views of Muizenberg and False Bay. By late afternoon, you will return to the hotel. The remainder of the day will be spent at your leisure, and dinner is on your own.

Day 4 - December 24th, 2014

Enjoy at leisurely breakfast at the hotel.

Check-out time from the hotel is 11:00am, although every effort will be made for your room to be available longer, if needed. Should you have a later flight, baggage storage will be available at the hotel.

Based on your flight time, you will be transferred to the Cape Town International Airport for your flight home.
