    Duration: 3 3/4 hours
    Tour Code: bes-004

The charming town of Locronan, which once prospered from the manufacturing of sail cloth, is the focus of this half-day tour.

Your tour begins with a scenic 1-hour drive to Locronan, a small town nestled at the foot of a hill. Considered by many to be one of the most beautiful villages in France, the town prospered from the hemp that is grown in the fields surrounding the village. At one time, the hemp grown here was shipped around the world for use in the making of riggings for sailing vessels. Today, traces of its Golden age are still to be found in its granite houses that were built during the Renaissance, the old well, large church and lovely chapel.

Upon arrival, you will commence a guided walking tour of Locronan, seeing such sights as Saint Ronan church and the Penity Chapel, which together form a harmonious ensemble. The 15th century Church is remarkable for its unity of style and stone vaulting. The decoration of the pulpit relates the life of Saint Ronan and the 15th century stained glass windows depict scenes of the passion.

Your guided walking tour lasts approximately 75-minutes, after which you will be afforded free time at leisure to stroll the streets and admire the fine Renaissance homes and browse the craft workshops.

At the conclusion of your visit, you will re-join your coach for the drive back to Brest.

Please note: This tour includes approximately 2 hours of moderate walking, at times over cobblestone surfaces and up inclines. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests. Those with mobility concerns are cautioned to evaluate their personal level of stamina and ability. Weather appropriate clothing and flat, comfortable walking shoes are suggested. Entrance to the Church is subject to any religious ceremonies that may be taking place.
