Bangkok (Laem Chabang), Thailand-port

Bangkok is the capital and largest city in Thailand. It began as a small trading center on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River serving the Ayutthaya Kingdom, the precursor of modern Thailand which existed from 1350 to 1767. The city has vastly modernized and undergone numerous changes, including the introduction of transportation and utility infrastructure in the reigns of King Mongkut and King Chulalongkorn, and quickly developed into the economic centre of Thailand.

Experience the beauty of one of Bangkok's lesser-known treasures during this full-day visit to the World Heritage Site of Ayutthaya, along with a memorable elephant ride.

Depart the pier for the 2 hour drive to historic Ayutthaya, stopping along the way for lunch at a local venue. Ayutthaya was founded in 1350 AD, and remained the kingdom's capital for 417 years until 1767 AD, when it was conquered and destroyed by the Burmese. Your tour will begin with a visit to the exquisite Bang Pa-In Summer Palace, formerly a popular summer retreat for Thai kings. The Palace includes one of the most photographed buildings in the kingdom, a charming Thai pavilion built over a pond. You will then depart for a brief elephant ride through the historic center of Ayutthaya.

Following your elephant ride, a visit will be made to the historic park to explore some of Ayutthaya's most famous and interesting ruins. After a full day of sightseeing, you'll re-board your motor coach for the relaxing drive back to the ship.

Please note: There is extensive walking on uneven ground at the temple complexes and ruins. This tour is not recommended for guests with limited mobility or guests who utilize a wheelchair. Sleeveless shirts or blouses, shorts and slippers are not permitted inside the Bang Pa-In Summer Palace. The order of sites visited may vary.
