This excursion presents breathtaking attractions that include Langkawi’s infinite natural beauty as you travel from a cultural complex to a rubber plantation to a landmark plaza.

Depart from the pier and drive across Langkawi, a ruggedly mountainous archipelago of rainforests, lakes and waterfalls. Largely undeveloped, the landscape is classically tropical. Upon reaching the northern shore, you will visit the Budaya Craft Cultural Complex, which celebrates Malaysia’s heritage.

While browsing the exhibits, you may find batik fabrics, rattan baskets and delicate bamboo carvings. Ethnic tribes have created many of the woven and beaded handicrafts using time-honored designs. Thousands of other cultural treasures await you in a nearby gallery that displays gifts that Malaysia’s former prime minister received from various world leaders. The items include cars, furniture and vases decorated with his likeness.

Continuing on, you will visit a rubber plantation to see how the tree sap is harvested to create products such as latex gloves, tires and paint. The tree bark is grooved at an angle, so the sap can slowly drip into a metal bucket, a simple method that has been used since the late 1800s.

Returning to Langkawi, you will pass numerous paddy fields, where buffalo may be cooling off in the muddy water. Still, the archipelago’s most recognized animal is the eagle, as the name Langwaki derives from the Malay word for eagle. You’ll see a massive sculpture of the bird about to take flight in Eagle Square before returning to the pier.

Please note: This tour includes approximately 2 1/2 hours of moderate walking/standing and there are some uneven surfaces to negotiate at the rubber plantation which is the only venue that is not wheelchair friendly. The tour is available to wheelchair guests who have a collapsible wheelchair, are able to make their own way on and off the coach and have an able-bodied companion to assist them. Those guests with mobility concerns are cautioned only to participate to the extent of their personal stamina and ability and may make arrangements with the guide to not participate in some of the walking portions of the tour. Weather appropriate clothing; sun cap; sunglasses; and flat, comfortable walking shoes are recommended. The order of the sites viewed or visited may vary.
