Legends of Kruger: Lukimbi(DUR-MPU)
Ride into the bush in expansive Kruger National Park on several game drives to observe Africa’s most iconic wildlife and later enjoy the exquisite comforts of luxurious Lukimbi Safari Lodge.
Upon disembarkation in Durban, you will be met and transferred to the King Shaka International Airport to check in and board your domestic flight to Nelspruit.
On arrival you are met and transferred approximately 2 hours by road to Lukimbi Private Game Reserve, located in the Kruger National Park - one of the largest game reserves in Africa. Established in 1898 to protect the wildlife of the South African lowveld, this wildlife sanctuary is like no other and offers the ultimate safari experience.
This is a land of unusual flora like baobabs, fever trees and knob thorns. The fauna is equally impressive and includes the Big Five (buffalo, elephant, leopard, lion and rhino), the Little Five (buffalo weaver, elephant shrew, leopard tortoise, ant lion and rhino beetle), and the birding Big Six (ground hornbill, kori bustard, lappet-faced vulture, martial eagle, pel’s fishing owl and saddle-bill stork).
Before long, you will arrive at the Lukimbi Safari Lodge, where you will spend the next two nights. Overlooking the Lwakahle River, the lodge features numerous open wooden decks and raised walkways that provide unobstructed, stunning views. There are also private decks leading out towards the river that are ideal for relaxing and bird watching.
Following check in and some time to freshen up, you will enjoy dinner at the lodge.
Following an early-morning wake-up call and refreshments, you will enjoy another game drive that showcases the abundant wildlife and natural beauty of the southern region of Kruger National Park.
Bounded by the Crocodile River and the Sabie River, the southern region also features the jagged ridge of the Lebombo Mountains along the border to Mozambique and the highest point in the park, Khandzalive. The valleys are home to trees rarely found in other parts of the Kruger National Park, such as the Cape chestnut, coral tree and lavender fever-berry.
In time, you will return to the lodge for a leisurely lunch and in the late afternoon venture into the bush on another game drive. Because Kruger is home to so many animals, what you see normally varies tremendously. To add even more intrigue, many animals are born this time of the year, and you might catch sight of them.
Later, dinner will be served at the Boma or in the lodge.
After an early breakfast final early morning game drive, you will check out and drive to Maputo. The drive time is approximately 2.5 hours and a picnic box lunch prepared by the lodge is included.
At the South Africa/Mozambique border post you will have to disembark your coach and proceed to immigration for customs control. Once the formalities are complete, you shall continue your journey through Maputo and to the port where you will re-join the ship.

South Africa’s seasons are the reverse of those in the northern hemisphere. Midwinter is in June and midsummer in December and January. The summer months in Kruger Park are very hot and humid with either continual rains or occasional afternoon thundershowers. Many young animals are born during this time.
In December at Lukimbi, there is usually some rainfall in short afternoon showers, so expect lush vegetation. Temperatures typically range from 18-34 degrees Celsius (64-93 degrees Fahrenheit), but may be somewhat higher or lower.
