POST - OPULENT CITIES OF THE EMIRATES- RAFFLES
Dubai is the second largest of the seven Emirates and is considered the commercial capital of the UAE and the Middle East. Popularly known as the 'City of Merchants' for its long history of trade, the city continues to be the hub for the transport of commodities in the region. The city is a unique blend of the East and the West - a fascinating potpourri of oriental charm and western modernity.
Day 1: November 21st, 2014
Disembark the ship and begin your Modern Dubai City Tour. The tour starts with a drive to the Jumeirah Beach area with photo stops at the Jumeirah Mosque, a magnificent example of modern Islamic architecture, followed by a stop to photograph the landmark of the city, the famous Burj Al Arab Hotel which is built on a manmade island.
From here you drive to the Marina and take a 10-minute break to walk through the Marina overlooking the lagoon. Thereafter, you drive through the Jumeirah Beach Residence area onto the Emirates Hills, The Springs and Meadows, which are today the most sought after residence areas and drive onto the Palm Jumeirah, which is the most talked about project of the new Dubai.
Continue on to the Sheikh Zayed road and arrive at the Dubai Mall which is the largest shopping mall in the world. The Dubai Mall is the region's premier shopping, lifestyle and entertainment destination. With more than 1,200 stores and a host of world-class attractions, The Dubai Mall is revolutionizing the modern shopping experience.
Finally walk to Burj Khalifa (tallest building in the world) and enjoy a moment at the viewing gallery at a top floor of the building
Following your city tour you will be transferred to the hotel for check-in and enjoy some time at leisure.
Later in the afternoon depart for an Ancient Dubai City Tour. The tour starts with the Al-Bastakia area in Bur Dubai, which dates back to the early 1900's, with its narrow lanes and tall wind-towers (barajeels) giving the place a very distinct character. It is a step back in time to see the traditional courtyard houses, bedecked with wind towers, which in the pre electricity days was the only means of cooling the houses.
Drive further down to the Museum, housed in the 18th century Al Fahidi Fort. It features s, with sound effects, depicting various scenes that provide a fascinating glimpse of the historical links of the city with trading and pearl diving.
This is followed by a visit to the Aromatic Spice Souq and the extensive gold souq where you can buy exquisite gold jewelry at prices lower than anywhere else in the world.
Dubai's skyline at night is enchanting, and the best way to get a glimpse of both the modern structures as well as the older traditional buildings, is to take a cruise on a traditional wooden dhow (Arabic boat) in Dubai Creek. The slow pace of the boat, the light music and the cool breeze create a romantic evening. The two hours cruise will remind one of the spirits of adventure of yester years. Dinner will be served on board the boat cruise. (Non exclusive)

A photo stop will be made in the corniche area and also in front of the Emirates Palace Hotel.
