Grand Tour of Seoul
Duration: 8 1/2 hours
Tour Code: inc-001
Explore the ancient roots of Seoul's progressive, modern-day society during a scenic full-day tour of this bustling city.
Depart the pier for the scenic 1-hour and 10-minute drive to Seoul, where you will find an eclectic blend of modern skyscrapers and superhighways combined with majestic ancient palaces, temples, city gates and gardens. Upon arrival, you will take a guided tour of the impressive New National Museum of Korea, where more than 4,500 exhibits detail Korea's historic and cultural heritage. It is the world's 6th-largest museum, and a premiere venue for the nation's cultural exhibits.
Next, you will proceed to a local restaurant for a traditional Korean lunch consisting of grilled beef with rice and vegetables, or bulgogi. You may opt for a vegetarian meal consisting of rice topped with assorted vegetables, or bibimbab. After lunch, you will pass the nation's presidential residence, or Blue House, en route for a guided tour of the Deoksugung Palace. Deoksugung is the smallest palace in South Korea, and noted for its elegant stone-walled road. Located at the corner of the busiest intersection in downtown Seoul, it is also the only South Korean palace standing alongside Western-styled buildings, which adds to the uniqueness of the scenery.
Your next stop is Insadong, one of Seoul's premiere shopping districts and a virtual living museum. Once the residence of Josun Dynasty officials, extended royal families and the Yang Ban aristocratic class, Insadong's narrow streets are today lined with antique stores, art galleries, second-hand bookstores, calligraphy shops, and quaint teahouses. Upon arrival, some time will be made available for you to browse through Insadong's many shops.
Leaving Insadong, you will take a panoramic drive past Namsan Mountain to the Western-styled Namdaemun Market, Korea's biggest traditional market for clothing, daily goods, kitchenware, and local and imported products. Some time will be made available to browse through the market before rejoining your coach for the 1-hour and 10-minute return drive to the pier and ship.
Please note: The drive between Inchon and Seoul will take more than an hour in each direction. This tour involves approximately 2 miles of walking. Lunch includes 2 glasses of local beer, soda or water.
