This intriguing excursion showcases the charm and beauty that abounds around Sihanoukville and gives you a wonderful view of daily life here, as seen through the eyes of the local villagers.
Departing the pier by coach, it's a 30-minute drive through the countryside to Puthuong. Nestled amongst a landscape dotted with rice fields, this traditional village is sure to enchant you. Your first visit is to a local temple, which is adorned with statues of traditional Apsara fairy dancers. Here, you will also view the monks' residences and dining hall as well as observing the homes of the nuns around the temple.
A short walk brings you to the heart of the village where you will be treated to a revealing glimpse into their daily lives. As you watch the villagers go about their day, your guide will explain how they raise domestic animals, prepare traditional dishes, and worship their ancestors in the pagodas. If school is in session, the teachers and students will be happy to talk about their education and daily routines.
Rejoining your coach, it's a short drive to the local market. As you wander about, you will see vendors selling many of the raw ingredients used in Cambodian cuisine, including palm sugar, vegetables and fish typically caught in the nearby waters.
Leaving the village behind, you will make your way to the south side of Sihanoukville where you will spend the next two hours or so luxuriating at the Sokha Beach Resort. Situated on a long stretch of pristine beach, the resort beautifully combines Khmer and western architecture. Feel free to swim in the pool, take a leisurely stroll along the beach, or simply relax and soak in the ambience. There is a restaurant and bar on site for those who wish to purchase a meal or enjoy a cool drink.
Following your time at the resort, your coach awaits to transfer you back to the pier where your tour concludes.
