Tour Code: ale-001
Enjoy a spectacular trip on Trollstigen Road, one of Norway's most visited attractions due to its majestic mountainous views. Trollstigen Road is a dramatic and exciting roadway through enormous mountains, offering amazing views of Norway.
Your journey begins by traveling along the Borgundfjord, passing charming suburbs and well-kept gardens. The fjord then changes course and you will head south into the bay of Stordal, well known for its furniture factories. You will then pass through the fertile valley of Valldal, where strawberry cultivation is very common, before ascending up the valley through stunning scenery to reach Trollstigen, almost a half-mile above sea level. In Trollstigen, a stop for lunch at a local restaurant is made during which you can enjoy some traditional Norwegian cuisine, including "Troll Cream" - cream with lingonberries.
Leaving Trollstigen, you'll next start the descent down the daring hairpin turns of Trolls' Path, which was opened in 1939. Once down in the valley, a brief photo stop is made to take in the lovely waterfall called Stigerøra, which majestically cascades down the mountainside. A detour is then made to Trollveggen, the Troll Wall, which is the highest perpendicular rock face in Europe. Alpinists from all over the world come here to try out the various routes to the top of this impressive edifice.
Your return trip towards Ålesund begins by driving by Romsdalsfjord, passing many of its small villages and towns such as Andalsnes and Orskogfjell, that are known for their woodcarving and rose painting, as well as ship and boat building.
