Climb aboard one of the most dramatic and visually-stunning train adventures in all of Europe during a ride on the Flåm Railway. The train journey provides some of Norway's wildest and most magnificent scenery, rivers that cut through deep ravines, waterfalls that cascade down the side of steep, snow-capped mountains and mountain farms that cling dizzily to sheer slopes.
Flåm is located in the innermost part of the 124 mile-long Sognefjord, Norway's longest and most majestic fjord. At the pier in Flåm, which also serves as the city's railway station, you will embark on a truly unforgettable train ride. The Flåm Railway is only 12.5 miles long, but a true masterpiece of engineering. Its exhilarating route traverses the narrow, steep valley, climbing from sea level to more than 2,800 feet while crossing back and forth across rivers, and through 20 tunnels. In order to afford you the best possible views of the magnificent scenery, the train will proceed slowly.
Continue on through the tunnel to Vatnahalsen, where you'll disembark the train and enjoy tea or coffee at the Vatnahalsen Mountain Hotel. There will be time to relax and take a stroll outside to enjoy the beautiful view of the valley far below. After your rest, re-board the train for the return journey back to Flåm. At the foot of the mountains you can enjoy the natural majesty of the Flåm Valley and admire the marvelous Aurlandfjord, a branch of the world's longest fjord, the Sognefjord. At Flåm's charming train station, you will find an assortment of souvenir shops, a post office and several cafes which you may visit if time permits.
Please Note: This tour includes a minimal amount of walking and is available to guests who utilize a wheelchair who have a collapsible wheelchair, are able to make their way on and off both the coaches and train, sit in a coach or train seat and have a companion to assist them. These modern trains are equipped with restrooms. As the Flåm Railway is not exclusive to Regent, the initial departure time may be delayed. It is important that all guests be ready on time as the train must keep to its time schedule and will not wait. There is a short walk from the train station to the Vatnahalsen Hotel. Warm clothing and flat comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
