Port: Sitka

Sitka

Sitka

After being the Russian capital of North America, the Russian flag was replaced by the Stars and Stripes in Sitka when the United States purchased Alaska. Today, picturesque Sitka, is known for its fishing industry, an annual summer classical music festival and, of course, its many historic visitor attractions. On a clear day Sitka, the only city in Southeast Alaska that actually fronts the Pacific Ocean, rivals Juneau for the sheer beauty of its surroundings.

The following Shore Excursions are available for this port on this cruise, and may be reserved beginning 180 days before the cruise begins.

Sea Life Discovery Tour
Tour Code: SIT-008
Duration: 2 hours
Retail Value: $149.00
Price: Free

Seated Tour

Immerse yourself in Alaska's spectacular undersea world during this marine discovery tour in Sitka.

Depart the pier aboard a semi-submersible vessel and begin your sea life discovery tour. Alaska's cold waters abound with life due to the long summer days and nutrient-rich currents of the North Pacific Ocean. Jellyfish, anemones, crab, fish, starfish, and a variety of aquatic plants can all be found here. During your tour, you will glide through eelgrass beds, drift through giant kelp forests and explore rich, rocky shoals.

In order to enhance your underwater experience, your heated, restroom-equipped vessel will feature comfortable seating and large underwater viewing windows to provide you with panoramic views of Alaska's undersea beauty. A naturalist guide will also be on-hand to inform you about Alaska's marine life throughout the tour. Onboard monitors and a scuba diver using a high-quality, underwater video will reveal even more of the world beneath the sea, and an open-top aquarium will bring sea creatures right on board the vessel.

Your tour will conclude above-deck with refreshments, including cookies topped with kelp marmalade. On the ride back to the pier, you will return through Sitka Channel, a sheltered waterway with fishing vessels, floatplanes and a bustling waterfront that is the heart of Sitka.

Please note: Guests are advised to dress warmly in layers, and bring a rainproof jacket from the ship if they wish to stand on the outside deck.
