Experience the wonders of the Alaskan wilderness in an exciting new way during this expedition aboard a specially designed, off-road go-kart, and a cruise along Ketchikan's scenic coast.
This excursion will begin at the downtown cruise ship dock. Upon arrival at the expedition assembly area, you will receive your safety instructions, then depart aboard your go-kart for an exciting, 1-hour drive through a privately-owned rainforest preserve. Along the way, your caravan will explore the remote backcountry road that threads its way along the scenic shoreline of George Inlet.
Next, you will proceed for a brief visit to the glacier-carved Mahoney Basin, which is surrounded by sheer cliffs, dense forest and waterfalls cascading into Mahoney Lake. Upon arrival, you will take in the grandeur and mystery of this pristine, yet rarely-visited locale renowned for its unique, awe-inspiring beauty. At Mahoney Lake, drivers and passengers will be given an opportunity to switch positions.
After a snack and beverage, you will return to the White River dock facility. Here, you will embark a custom-designed boat for a 1-hour cruise through George Inlet. En route, you will learn about Ketchikan's history, wildlife, culture and economy. Helmets, raingear, a healthy snack and beverage will be provided.
At the conclusion of your cruise, you will be returned to the pier.
Please note: Guests should be prepared for a very bumpy ride and therefore this tour is not recommended for guests with back and/or neck problems. Expect the trail to be dusty or muddy depending on the weather conditions. Vehicle speed is mechanically regulated to a maximum of 30 m.p.h. For insurance purposes, each driving participant must present a valid driver's license and be at least 21 years of age. Participants must be at least 40 pounds and 50 inches in height to ensure maximum benefit from the safety harnesses on the vehicles.
The group is divided into two, with half the group departing by coach and the other half departing by boat, transportation will be swapped for the return.
