Port: Juneau

Juneau

Juneau

In 1880, Joe Juneau and Richard Harris were searching for gold with the help of Indian guides. Finally, they found nuggets "as large as beans." Out of their discoveries came three of the largest gold mines in the world where more than $150 million in gold was mined. Eventually the mines closed, but the town Juneau founded became the capital of Alaska. Its total area makes it the biggest town, in size, in North and South America - and the second largest in the world.

The following Shore Excursions are available for this port on this cruise, and may be reserved beginning 180 days before the cruise begins.

Seated Tour Regent Choice

Experience Alaska's glacial beauty in a unique new way during this picturesque helicopter flightseeing tour, glacier walk and dogsled ride.

Depart the pier for the brief drive to the helicopter base. Upon arrival, you will take a helicopter flight over the massive Juneau Icefield before landing on a nearby glacier for a visit to an exclusive dog-sledding camp. Upon arrival at the dog-sledding camp, you will meet the professional mushers and Alaskan sled dogs, learn about the famous, 1,000-mile Iditarod race and take an exciting dogsled ride; the highlight of your visit.

Next, your flightseeing expedition will continue over the majestic Juneau Icefield and its wonderous glaciers. Your pilot will fly you over the ice spires and pinnacles of the cascading, advancing or retreating glaciers below. As you glide over the elegant rivers of ice, keep your eyes peeled for wildlife below.

Following your visit, you will re-board your helicopter for the return flight to the helicopter base, then be transferred back to the ship.

Please note: This tour involves approximately 30-35 minutes of total flight time, and 1 hour on the glacier. This tour is recommended for guests in good physical condition. Guests with back and/or neck problems, guests with asthma, heart or respiratory conditions, guests with limited mobility and guests who utilize a wheelchair will not be permitted on this tour. Guests are advised to wear warm clothing, including mittens and sunglasses; glacier-walking boots will be provided. Due to the high altitude of the dog camp, frequent weather-related cancellations occur. Weather permitting, there will be a possibility of converting to the Glacier Landing Adventure by Helicopter (JNU-010). A window seat is not guaranteed. The minimum age to participate on this tour is two years old; children must be accompanied by a parent.
