Port: Skagway

Skagway
Skagway, a place of many names, much history and little rain, is the northern terminus of the Alaska Marine Highway. It was known to thousands of hopeful gold rushers as the gateway to the gold fields. But when the gold yield dwindled in 1900, so did the population of Skagway. Skagway retains the flavor of the gold rush era, especially on Broadway, with its false-front buildings, and in the Trail of '98 Museum, with its outstanding collection of memorabilia.
The following Shore Excursions are available for this port on this cruise, and may be reserved beginning 180 days before the cruise begins.

Join Alaska's oldest, locally-owned sightseeing company for non-stop entertainment during this award-winning historical tour aboard a beautiful, yellow 1927 sightseeing motorcar.
This fun-filled, informative tour began in 1923 when Martin Itjen, an Alaskan humorist in the style of Will Rogers, drove U.S. President Warren G. Harding around Skagway in his home-built Skagway Street Car. President Harding loved the tour, and Martin knew he was on to something. Martin had experienced the 1898 Klondike Gold Rush first-hand, and shared a rich oral collection of Skagway tales with every guest on his tour. This tradition proudly continues to this day, as Martin's stories are passed on to you.
Depart the pier with your costumed conductor for the ride around the waterfront, along the boardwalks of the downtown Historic District and up to a scenic overlook for a panoramic view of the town, ships, and surrounding glaciers and peaks. Along the way, you will learn about the local geography and life during the winter months. Have your cameras ready for a reenactment of Alaska's famous Soapy Smith/Frank Reid gunfight, the Gold Rush Cemetery and Skagway's Garden City residential district.
Next, you will follow in the footsteps of U.S. Presidents Warren G. Harding and Theodore Roosevelt by becoming an honorary member ofn the Artic Brotherhood at a command performance at the Club House Theatre.
Following this unique tour of Skagway, you will be returned to the pier.
