Port: Cozumel

Cozumel

Cozumel

Cozumel is the largest inhabited island in Mexico, which lies just off the mainland. The coasts are known for large, breaking surf on the east side, and calmer waters for diving on the west side. In 1959, Jacques Cousteau discovered the beauty of Palancar, the coral reefs at the south of Cozumel and publicized it as one of the best places to go scuba diving in the world. Diving is still Cozumel's primary draw, mainly due to the healthy coral reef marine communities.

The following Shore Excursions are available for this port on this cruise, and may be reserved beginning 180 days before the cruise begins.

Seated Tour

Discover Cozumel's colorful past and charming present on this delightful half-day tour.

Your guide will greet you on the pier and then you will board your coach for a scenic drive around the island of Cozumel, one of Mexico's most popular tourist destinations and its largest inhabited island. As you make your way around the island, your guide will provide you with an informative narration of the island's history and point out places of interest.

Your first stop is at the oldest settlement on the island, El Cedral. During your stop you will learn about the ancient history of the Mayan culture that first inhibited this tiny village and how in later years, this was the site of the first Catholic service held in Mexico.

Continuing on, you will make your way around the southern tip of the island to the eastside, enjoying picturesque views of pristine, untamed beaches while on your way to El Mirador. A stop at this popular natural limestone formation allows you an opportunity to stretch your legs and take some photos of the striking coastline and rock formations.

Your journey then brings you back into town to the Tequila Museum. During your visit, you will be treated to a sampling of traditional folkloric dances, performed by professional artists in full costume. You may also choose to either view Cozumel's tequila museum with your guide or have some free time here to explore at your own pace. Following your time here, you are given the option of returning to the ship on the coach, or staying behind in town and returning at your leisure and your own expense.

Please note: This tour includes minimal walking over mostly even surfaces; however, there are uneven limestone surfaces at El Mirado which can be slippery. The tour is not available to guests who utilize a wheelchair and those guests with mobility concerns are cautioned to evaluate their personal level of ability and stamina. Light weight clothing, comfortable, flat walking shoes, sun caps, sunglasses and sunscreen are suggested. The order of the sites visited or viewed may vary.
