Port: Cozumel

Cozumel
Cozumel is the largest inhabited island in Mexico, which lies just off the mainland. The coasts are known for large, breaking surf on the east side, and calmer waters for diving on the west side. In 1959, Jacques Cousteau discovered the beauty of Palancar, the coral reefs at the south of Cozumel and publicized it as one of the best places to go scuba diving in the world. Diving is still Cozumel's primary draw, mainly due to the healthy coral reef marine communities.
The following Shore Excursions are available for this port on this cruise, and may be reserved beginning 180 days before the cruise begins.

This tour is perfect for those who wish to gain a good insight into the history and culture of Cozumel as well as take advantage of shopping in the downtown area with an experienced guide available to assist you with any questions.
Your exploration of this delightful island, which is considered by many to be Mexico's most popular cruise ship destination, begins with a scenic drive that takes you to El Cedral, your first stop. Once a bustling hub of Maya life, it is recognized as the first site found by the Spanish explorers in 1518. While many of the original buildings have been destroyed or fallen to ruin, it is still a fascinating place to visit to this day.
Next, you'll travel around the southern tip of the island, viewing the famous untamed beaches and crystalline waters that have added to Cozumel's allure as a top vacation spot. Here on the eastern side of the island is where you will find El Mirador, well known for its distinctive limestone formation and natural arches that have been carved by the pounding waves. A brief stop here will allow you to take some wonderful photos of this dramatic spot, where the aquamarine waters churn against the jagged rocks and send plumes of spray into the air.
On your way back to town, you'll pay a quick visit to a working tequila hacienda and learn about the processing of Mexico's ancestral drink while enjoying a sample of tequila. Arriving in the downtown area, tour participants have the option of an escorted tour of Cozumel's noteworthy historical museum before venturing on their own for shopping, or forfeiting the museum visit for added shopping time. A tour guide will be available at a designated downtown location to assist with any questions or give directions. Following your shopping time, you'll rejoin your coach and transfer back to the pier. Those who desire to extend their time in town may return to the ship at their leisure and at their own expense.
Please note: This tour includes limited walking over mostly flat surfaces; however, there are some steps to negotiate and uneven surfaces at El Mirador. The coaches are not wheelchair accessible and guests must be able to get themselves on and off the coach as the driver and guide are not able to provide assistance. Therefore, this tour may not be suitable for guests who utilize a wheelchair and those with mobility concerns are cautioned to evaluate their personal level of ability and stamina. Light clothing, a cap, sunglasses and comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
