Discover the Principality of Monaco
Duration: 8 hours
Tour Code: anb-001
Venture to Monaco via the scenic Middle Corniche roadway and admire the principality’s star attractions, including the Oceanographic Museum, Prince’s Palace and famed casino.
Depart from the pier and drive north along the French Riviera to the lovely Promenade des Anglais in Nice, after which you will pick up the Middle Corniche roadway. Skirting the coastline, you will have phenomenal views of elegant Villefranche and exclusive Cap Ferrat, before passing through the medieval village of Eze, which sits perched on a craggy peak.
Constructed between 1910 and 1928, the Middle Corniche continues into Monaco, where your walking tour begins. You will pass the monumental Oceanographic Museum, which rises out of a sheer cliff, and the Prince’s Palace, a 12th-century fortress that has become the official residence of the Prince of Monaco. Here, shortly before noon, you will watch the changing of the guards, a wonderfully formal ceremony that has been performed daily for more than 100 years.
Then, following lunch at a local restaurant, you will see the Grimaldi Forum, a modern convention center built on land reclaimed from the sea. Constructed to be environmentally conscious, the center is heated and cooled by seawater. From here, you will have free time for shopping or perhaps trying your luck in the famed Casino de Monte Carlo. While you might play familiar games such as Black Jack and Roulette, the casino also offers more unusual games that include Chemin de Fer and Punto Banco. Afterwards, you will rejoin your coach and make the return trip to the pier in Antibes.
Please note: This tour includes approximately 3 1/2 hours of moderate walking/standing and there are some steps and an uphill gradient to negotiate. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests and not considered suitable for those guests with mobility concerns. Weather appropriate clothing; sun cap; sunglasses; a bottle of water from the ship; and flat, comfortable walking shoes are recommended. The order of the sites viewed or visited may vary.
