Puerto Montt's historic sites and spectacular beauty are yours to discover during this scenic journey to Puerto Varas and Frutillar.
Depart the pier for a scenic city tour of Puerto Montt. Founded in 1853 by German settlers, Puerto Montt serves as the capital of the Lake District. Along the way, you will see the Main Square, or Plaza de Armas. You will then proceed north to Lake Llanquihue. Chile's largest lake, it is dominated by the impressive, snow-capped Osorno Volcano. From here, your drive will continue on toward Puerto Varas. En route, a brief photo stop will be made as you pass through the beautiful, lush countryside dotted with weathered clapboard barns and churches.
Next, you will continue on to Frutillar, a charming German-style village situated on the west side of Lake Llanquihue; South America's third-largest natural lake. Upon arrival, a visit will be made to the interesting local museum for an insight into the life of the German settlers who colonized the area in the late-19th century. Frutillar is also known for its high quality cuisine and old German delikatessen.
Following your visit, you will re-board your coach and return to Puerto Montt via the same route. Once back in Puerto Montt, you may opt to be taken directly to the pier, or dropped off at the port gates for a visit to Angelmó, the local Fish and Handicraft Market, and a nearby fishing village where the houses are built on stilts over the water. Afterward, you will return to the pier at your own expense.
Please note: The order of sites visited may be reversed due to traffic conditions. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Guests wishing to stay on at Angelmo will be responsible for their own transportation back to the ship.
