Willemstad, CW-port

Discover a touch of old Amsterdam transported to an island paradise. Pastel-hued buildings decorate the waterfront of this very Dutch Caribbean island. Don’t miss a visit to the colorful floating market, just a short walk from the Queen Emma Pontoon Bridge. A World Heritage site, the Punda district preserves hundreds of buildings as national monuments including Fort Amsterdam, the Governor’s Palace, Mikve Israel-Emanuel Synagogue, one of the first synagogue’s in the New World, and the waterfront’s colorful Penha building.

This inspired selection of Curaçao's top attractions offers a wonderful overview of the island.

It all starts by boarding a coach and driving through the winding streets of Willemstad's charming Otrobanda district, which was founded in 1707. Otrobanda means "The Other Side," referring to its location on the other side of the Punda district, which was formed more than 70 years earlier, when the Dutch wrested Curaçao from Spain. You'll get a spectacular view of both districts while crossing the Queen Juliana Bridge, which soars 185 feet above St. Anna Bay to accommodate large ships entering the harbor. It's one of the world's tallest bridges.

Another interesting sight is the Roosevelt House, which now serves as the residence of the U.S. Consulate. It was given to the United States to recognize America's efforts during World War II.

During a stop at the Dutch colonial mansion of Chobolobo, you may sample its most renowned liqueur, made with indigenous Laraha orange peels rather than orange flavoring. The liqueur remains true to its original recipe, which was created in 1886.

More fine architecture and dramatic water views await you while driving through the Jan Thiel district to Curaçao's handicraft market. Time will be permitted here to look for palm-fiber bags, woven baskets, ceramic items and intricate lacework. Traveling on, you'll will visit Curaçao Maritime Museum , which harmoniously embraces the age old maritime history and modern twentieth century design

From the Museum, a short transfer brings you back to the pier where your tour concludes.

Please note: This tour includes approximately 90-minutes of moderate to easy walking; however, some of it is over rough coral stone and there are 32 steps to negotiate to access the Museum. This tour is not available to wheelchair guests and those with mobility concerns are cautioned to evaluate their personal level of stamina and ability. Light-weight clothing and flat, comfortable walking shoes are suggested. The order of the sights viewed or visited may vary. Guests must be at least 18-years old to participate in any alcohol tasting.
