Gaudi's Barcelona
Duration: 4 1/2 hours
Tour Code: bcn-001
Explore Barcelona through the eyes of famed architect Antoni Gaudí during this scenic and memorable visit to Park Güell.
Depart the pier for the drive to Park Güell, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Located on a Barcelona hilltop high above the city, this lovely park is one of famed architect Antoni Gaudí's most important creations and features some of his most significant structures. En route, your guide will provide commentary about the city and its architecture. Park Güell was to be a planned city, but that idea never came to pass. It is now a delightful park filled with whimsical Gaudí creations, some of which are covered in mosaic. Perhaps the most original of the many different sections is the area of leaning columns that was once the marketplace. The columns support a terrace, a colourful undulating balustrade and a bench.
Leaving Park Güell, your drive will continue on to the Sagrada Familia, possibly the most famous and notable of all of Gaudí's work. Here, you will have some free time for an exterior photo opportunity. Unfinished at the time of his death, it is now under the direction of the architect Subirat. You will then proceed for a visit to another famous Gaudí monument, Casa Batlló. The present Casa Batlló is a result of a total refurbishment of an old previous conventional house built in 1877. Gaudí was commissioned by the owner Josep Batlló i Casanovas to totally renew the old building. On that basis, Gaudí created this astonishing house, considered one of the most ornate and "special" to be found in Barcelona.
Following your visit, you will re-board your coach for the return drive to the pier.
Please note: This tour involves approximately 30-minutes of walking at Park Güell, which includes uneven terrain. Park Güell is built on four levels, requiring the negotiation of many steps. Additionally, due to new parking restriction for coaches, please be advised that there will be a 15-minute walk from the parking area to the Sagrada Familia and vice-versa (30-min in total). This tour is not considered suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilize a wheelchair. Weather appropriate clothing; sun cap; sunglasses; and flat, comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
