Corfu Panorama
Duration: 4 hours
Tour Code: cfu-003
This coach tour will take you to some of the most beautiful spots on the island of Corfu, with some relaxing walking on easy terrain which offers you the chance to enjoy and explore the sites visited at length.
Leaving from the port, you will be driven through the beautiful countryside, to the famous Monastery of the Virgin, located high on the hill overlooking the gorgeous Paleokastritsa Bay, known as the Capri of Greece. This Byzantine monastery is still inhabited by a self-reliant community of monks, its long history evident from the collections of Byzantine icons and other religious relics featured in its chapel and museum.
Following your guided tour of the monastery, you'll board your coach and travel uphill to the panoramic position of the Golden Fox Café, found high on the hills in the traditional village of Lakones, famous for its spectacular views over the Bay of Paleokastritsa. Locals know this location as God's Balcony. At the café, you enjoy a refreshingly cold glass of ouzo or wine together with a meze snack, and a watch a show by a group of local dancers and musicians in traditional costume.
Following your relaxing break at Lakones, the tour continues via coach over the mountain ridge passing through some of the most picturesque traditional villages on the northern side of the island. In about 45-minutes, you'll arrive in Corfu for a panoramic sightseeing tour of the town, passing by the Palaiopolis (ancient ruins); the summer palace of the former king of Greece; Mon Repos; Garitsa Bay; the 14th-century Old Venetian Fortress, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site; the Esplanade Square, once used as drilling grounds for Napoleon Bonaparte's soldiers; the Royal Palace of St. George & St. Michael built in the 19th century by the first British Commissioner of the island; the Old Port, crowded with traditional caiques, the New Venetian Fortress built in the 16th century; the open-air flea-market and San Rocco square, the commercial center of town. Following this delightful tour of Corfu, you'll transfer back to the pier.
