Port: Corfu

Corfu
Legendary Corfu is a lush and romantic island, written about by Homer in his famous Odyssey. The island's history is full of battles, indicative of Corfu's turbulent position that lasted until modern times with unification with modern Greece in 1864. Corfu offers a combination of cosmopolitan and time-honored Greece. As well as a flower-strewn countryside and Adriatic-style villages, Corfu has splendid coastal scenery and some excellent secluded beaches.
The following Shore Excursions are available for this port on this cruise, and may be reserved beginning 180 days before the cruise begins.

A colorful traditional Corfiot horse-drawn carriage decorated with flowers awaits you by your ship at port. Once you are comfortably seated, it leisurely makes its way into the center of the Old Town of Corfu. The historic Old Town of Corfu, lying between two Byzantine-era citadels, with its high tenements, narrow serpentine kandounia (streets) and charming little piazzas crammed with cafés and pastry shops, will captivate you with the beauty and charm of its Venetian-style architecture, more reminiscent of Venice than of a typical Greek city.
Your carriage leisurely moves on the coastal road encircling the Old Town of Corfu, passing through the very heart of the town, the synagogue, the shopping center, the Theater House, the picturesque Bay of Garitsa, the small marina, and the 14th century Old Venetian Fortress - now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Once at Esplanade Square, known as Greece's largest and most beautiful square and originally the drill ground for the soldiers of Napoleon Bonaparte, you leave your carriages for a guided tour of the Old Town on foot - your chance to explore the hidden charms of this historic town. You walk by the famous Liston Piazza with its glorious arcades - originally the royal palace stables - now housing numerous cafés, and the old cricket grounds - a local tradition left over by the British. You pass by the Royal Palace of St. George & St. Michael - built in the early 19th century entirely of yellow Maltese stone by the first British Commissioner of the island. Walking in the winding, narrow cobbled kandounia that lead into the heart of the old town, you visit the Church of Saint Spyridon, the island's patron saint, housing numerous priceless icons and offerings dedicated to the saint. Total walking time is approximately 1 hour. Following your guided walking tour around the historic center of the Old Town, you'll have some free time for shopping or wandering about on your own before boarding the coach for the transfer back to your ship.
Please note: This tour will not operate when road surfaces are wet. A maximum of 2 persons per carriage. The price is per person, and based on 2 guests per carriage.
